Worked with Yvonne at The Huron Expositor, probably in the 70s. Appreciate the opportunity it gave me to experience her, larger than life, breath of spring and competent approaches to each day.

Dear family, thinking of all of you at this sad time. We knew Yvonne for many years. She would go on the hunt at antique shows to find jewelry with red stones. She was so proud of her red glasses, her red car. Loved chatting with her many times. Visited with Don when they lived on Orchard street. Condolences and hugs.

Condolence from Earl and Marilyn Miller on October 27th, 2023 9:56 PM

Our sincere sympathy to Don, Shane, Colin and the rest of Yvonne’s family. Yvonne has made a huge impact on many over several years as she was an integral part of our Coffee Break bible study at Emmanuel , serving for a time as one of our bible study leaders. She also shared with us her writing talents that were published in her 2 devotional books. Her love for God shone through her wise writings, which were both humorous and thought provoking. Yvonne had continued to be knowledgably active at Coffee Break, right up to last week. We will greatly miss our affectionately called ‘lady in red’, her bright smile, and sense of quick wit.

Your Mom (and Sister) was a colourful woman in many ways. Her articles were so impressive that many hit the national newspapers. She had lots of opinions and expressed them well. I enjoyed her very much.

Condolence from Clara Vanderlaan on October 28th, 2023 9:08 PM

Dear Don , Shane , Collin and families ,

To have been a deep and close friend of your mother Yvonne was a honoured pleasure . In many ways she mentored me as a younger Christian. We enjoyed many discussions in growing in God’s Word ; sharing in prayer ; enjoying many lunches and in coming along side her when personal losses altered her lifestyle. She grew in grace and reflected her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ looking forward to seeing Him face to face . I will remember her with great fondness thankful for the many words of Godly Wisdom she passed on in her devotionals
” Along Life’s Narrow Path,
Magnify the Lord with me and The Funny Farm ”
John 17: 3-5
Love Clara

We offer our sincere condolences to Yvonne’s sons, her sisters and family. I knew her as our Mother’s cousin and last had the pleasure of chatting with her in July, 9 years ago at Mother’s Birthday. All the cousins were there, along with Mother’s sisters and we had a lovely afternoon. Since then, she has communicated via e-mail and encouraged me with my writing.. With her writing she left a legacy of many memories and happy times.

My dearest Gran, you will be so missed! I have so many great memories of our times together; baking bread in the old farm house, visiting the goats with grandpa, sewing doll clothes together, hunting the thrift stores, and eating Chinese food. We girls always had a great time with you. Your witty, charming spirit was ever present. Your sharp mind never failing to impress me. I will forever think of you anytime I see an angel or a lady in red. Love you Gran xo

Yvonne was a great friend to our family and a true original. She was generous, intelligent and hard working and always gave back to her community. Our Mom Edna and Yvonne were Clinton girls, and always had lots of stories to share. Our thoughts are with her sons and their families, and everyone who experienced her kindness. She brought both colour, and comfort to our lives, and will always be remembered.

Condolence from Bruce McGillivray on November 2nd, 2023 1:39 AM

We were deeply saddened to find out today that Aunt Yvonne had died. Her passing is both personal and symbolic for us as she was the last of our parent’s generation, our aunts and uncles, still with us. My brother Russ, sister Margaret and I grew up in Ottawa when Yvonne and Don and their three kids Don, Shane and Colin lived there. Lots of family dinners brought us together in the 1960s. Aunt Yvonne stood out even then, she seemed different than our mother and the other Moms in our neighbourhood. She had opinions, expressed them vigorously, laughed out loud, had a great voice and she smoked! In a black and white era, she was colourful, she liked red as others have noted. Who knew then what a great writer and storyteller she would become but you could tell she had a quick wit and a strong will. Our mother would remind us that she taught Yvonne in high school in Toronto. I don’t remember how well she did in Mom’s class, but Yvonne did end up marrying her teacher’s brother! Pretty bold for the 1950s and perfectly in character. I have not lived in Ontario for 40 years, but I still remember visits to the farm with the goats and later visiting Yvonne in Exeter for lunch and great conversations, with various members of my Alberta family. She will be missed but rest assured, she will be remembered fondly on this side of the family. Our deepest condolences to Don, Shane, Colin and their families and Yvonne’s many friends in Exeter.
