QUANCE: James Peter of Richmond Hill, formerly Toronto and Ailsa Craig *Updated

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of James Peter Quance on February 7, 2025, at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, in the loving care of his family. Born on October 7, 1933, Jim lived a long, healthy and fulfilling life.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Norma Alberta Webster; his parents, Thomas Stanley Quance and Mabel Edna Quance; his cherished older brother and mentor, Lloyd George Quance; and his sister, Margaret Edna Fenner. The memories of his loved ones remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Jim is survived by his son, Michael Quance, and grandson, Tyler. He is also fondly remembered by his spouse’s son, Allan Webster, and wife Kathy, along with their family. Many nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren also hold treasured memories of their Uncle Jim and his fun-loving spirit.

Throughout his life, Jim called Toronto, Ailsa Craig, and Richmond Hill home, creating many friendships along the way. He enjoyed a long career as a surveyor with the Ontario Department of Highways and later in the Downsview, Ontario offices of its successor, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. He particularly enjoyed his early years working outdoors as he helped construct northern Ontario’s vital network of highways and his dedication to his career working for the Ontario Government is a testament to his character.

Beyond his career achievements, Jim had a lifelong passion for sports. Baseball, hockey, and football held special places in his heart. As a young man, he delighted in playing these sports and carried that passion into adulthood, enthusiastically following his favorite professional teams. An avid outdoorsman, Jim found joy and tranquility in gardening and spending time in nature. Fishing in Ontario’s beautiful lakes was a cherished pastime that brought him great happiness.

Jim’s family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Novac and the caring staff at Hilltop Place for their kindness and dedicated care during Jim’s later years. Special thanks are also extended to Dr. Berger and the compassionate nursing staff at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital for their knowledgeable and empathetic care during Jim’s final days.

Jim’s funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan at 11 AM. Interment Mars Hill Cemetery.

Jim’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be remembered for his steadfast spirit, generous heart, and optimistic, cheerful personality.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jim’s memory be made to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation, London or a charity of your choice.

It was a long time ago that we knew Jim and Norma at Restview in Lucan. Life was just becoming difficult but Jim still got them to the theatre. He proved love was real. Time took its toll and Norma went ahead. Jim came with us to new facility and was a resilient, amazing, kind, funny gentleman. Long time ago but will always be remembered- Kathy, Brenda, Arlene, Sheryl, Rosa, and many others friends and staff
