Fred & Wally’s Family: So sorry to read of Wally’s passing. I always enjoyed his canned goods and desserts. He was a real expert in the kitchen. Often he would be taking tickets in Crediton when meals were being served. He always had a smile. The entire family has my deepest condolences and may Wally rest in peace.

Dear Nolan, and Janice,
My parents, Bill, and Roxann, and my sisters, Ashlynn, and Jennifer would like to extend our deepest condolences to you. Wally was an amazing man, and a really thoughtful gentleman. He lived with my Grandmother, Babe Oliver when he was first posted to Rodney. Babe thought so highly of both Wally, and Dorothy. My Mom really enjoyed her visits with Wally, and he was very insightful with so many topics. Your father was a kind man. I’m sure he is now holding hands with Dorothy.
Sincerely,
Wade Nethercott

Condolence from Mark Heimrich on August 17th, 2025 1:57 AM

Jan, Nolan & Carolyn, Fred and all Wally’s family & friends;

Our sincere sympathy in the loss of Wally. A true gentleman and avid kitchen king. We’ve enjoyed many of Wally’s canned goods over the years. I’ve had lots of great chats with Wally over the years! In recent years, they’ve often been at the Exeter Farmers Market where Wally proudly sold his tasty creations. I first got to know Wally & Dorothy when they purchased a car through me at Frayne Chev-Olds back in 1987. Then got to know him further through the Pfaff & Bowers connections.
You all remain in our thoughts and prayers at this time.
Rest in peace Wally.

Mark & Julie Heimrich, Sarah, Scott & Spencer.

With sympathy to Wally’s family and friends

I was so sorry to learn about Wally’s passing. What a wonderful human being.

I knew him from the time we were both young, we were cousins. Loved that laugh, hearing about what he was up to, and of course enjoying his preserves and baking.

He should have been in the Guiness Book of Records for how many pies could be baked in a single day!

Always remember him asking me one evening when I was a young teenager, ” What star are you going to hitch your wagon to?” I had to ask him what that meant — he was asking about what I wanted to do in life.

Wally was such a light in so many lives. Always with that welcoming smile, up for a chat on the phone or in person. Always that zest for life, caring about others.

He leaves us with so many wonderful memories of a long life well lived.

He was always my source for info on our shared family history – the Pfaffs and Finkbeiners.

And I am thinking about wagons hitched to stars.

Judy (FInkbeiner) Johnson & Barry Johnson
