Peter Butland Ph.D.

Peacefully, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 of Lucan at the age of 87.  Beloved husband of Edith Young.   Missed by his daughter Kathy Hailstone and husband Ron of Muskoka, sons Don Butland and wife Elaine of Whitby, Brian Butland and wife Wendy of Guelph and step-daughters Sandra Marshall and husband Dave of Waldemar and Susann Emter of Meaford.  His 8 grandchildren will miss their beloved granddad.  All his friends and family will miss his kind and caring personality.

Peter was born in Greenwich, England and came to Canada at the age of 4.  During WWII, he spent several years in the Royal Canadian Air Force.  After the war, he graduated with a BA in Science from MacMaster University and later received his Ph.D in Food Science in 1999.  During his life, he travelled the world extensively and had many stories to tell. Peter loved books, classical music and gardening.  The family would like to thank all the nursing staff and doctors at South Huron Hospital for their loving care and kindness.

Peter requested that his body be donated to the Western University-Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology for medical research.

Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan, one hour prior to a memorial service, which will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 2 PM with Rev. Andreas Thiel officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the South Huron Hospital would be appreciated by the family.

You and the family are in my prayers at this sad time. My memories of Peter and his help with my little garden across the street from you are some of my fondest. I always loved to hear his stories, even the “off colour” ones! His passion for life is something that I will always remember.
