PEARCE: Hugh Barrington of Lucan

Suddenly at his residence on June 3, 2026, Hugh Barrington Pearce of Lucan passed away in his 83rd year.

Beloved son of the late Jean Gordon and Leslie G. Pearce, and dear brother of the late Richard Pearce.

Cherished father of Hugh L.R. Pearce and beloved father-in-law of Denise Pearce. Proud and devoted Gramps to Ethan, Benjamin, and Avery Pearce, who brought him endless joy and gave him countless opportunities to share his love of sports, stories, and life’s lessons.

Hugh was a passionate lifelong sports fan. He faithfully cheered for the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Tigers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Buffalo Bills through decades of triumphs, heartbreaks, and near misses.

His love of sports extended far beyond the spectator’s seat. In his younger years, Hugh played Junior B hockey for the Waterloo Siskins, earning the nickname “Zippy” and proudly embracing the role of enforcer on the ice. He also enjoyed golfing and sharing his passion for sports with his son and grandsons. Whether watching a game, debating statistics, or reliving memorable moments from years past, sports remained one of the great joys of his life.

Hugh appreciated life’s simple pleasures: a cold Dab beer, a glass of red wine, reruns of his favourite television shows, and the timeless music of the 1960s. Long before it became fashionable, he resisted most technological advancements, preferring the traditional way of doing things and often reminding others that the old ways worked just fine.

Known for his gift of storytelling, Hugh could captivate a room with tales from years gone by. Whether recounting hockey road trips, golf outings, adventures with friends, or memories from his younger days, he always had a story to tell. The details may have evolved over time, but the humour, charm, and enthusiasm never changed.

Hugh will be sadly missed by his many friends and neighbours at Lions Parkview Place, where he formed cherished friendships and shared countless conversations, laughs, and memories during weekly happy hours.

In keeping with Hugh’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Home, Lucan.

Donations in Hugh’s memory to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) would be appreciated by the family.
