PARNELL: Dr. Tony of Lucan and formerly of London

At his home, in Lucan on Sunday, July 7, 2013, of Lucan and formerly of London in his 91st year.  Beloved husband of Kate Parnell.  Dear father of Diana, Ian, and Mark.  Step-father of Michael and Wayne O’Neil.  Dear gramps of Dakota, Luke, Lena, Nicole and Lydia and great-gramps of 4.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Keith Thompson, Dr. John Vallely and Wendy Tryst for their exceptional care.  Tony was a veteran of World War II as a member of the Royal Air Force and was shot down over France where he remained a POW for 3 years.  His interest in dentistry ensured his survival as he helped the camp dentist.  He attended the Royal College of Dentistry, London UK and came to Canada in the mid 1960s, where he became the Chief of the Dental Department at St. Joseph’s Hospital until his retirement.  He was also a professor of dentistry at UWO.  Above all, Tony will be remembered as a humble and kind man with a sweet tooth.

Friends may call at St. Patrick’s Church, 32922 Richmond Street, Lucan from 2:00-3:00 PM on Thursday, July 11th where the Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 PM with Father Dariusz Lewandowski presiding.  Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lucan.

Donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family.

Kate, Mike & Wayne:

We were neighbours for many years, and have thought of “you all” many times since you moved.

Tony was an exceptional man. He was always very friendly & easy-going, with many interesting stories.

We are very sad to hear of his passing.

I was saddened to read, this morning, of the death of Tony, an esteemed colleague, one of the academic builders, as the founding Chair of Oral Surgery, of Western’s then Faculty of Dentistry. He was highly respected by faculty, staff, and students.

Please permit me to extend to you, Kate, and to all other members of your family, my most profound and heartfelt sympathy.

Most sincerely,
Wes

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will live on in the memories of the many whose lives he touched and through the lives of his descendants. May his rest be peaceful and his name be for a blessing.

Condolence from Luke Parnell on July 9th, 2013 8:07 PM

It is a shame that you are gone, before I was given the opportunity to properly say goodbye. If only I was able to know you better, for I can hardly remember you from when I was small. You will be missed.

Love,
Luke.

Condolence from Dakota Parnell on July 9th, 2013 10:44 PM

Grandpa,

There are so many things I wished I could have told you before this day came. I know it’s too late now but I love you and I appreciate everything you did for me when you could, I was so young then, I only wish I could have shown you my appreciation for you. I’m thankful for being able to see you fairly recently, but things had changed. Still I’m thankful I was able to see you one last time. I miss you, and I thought about you every day, and I will for many more years to come. I’m so proud to call you my grandfather even though you’ve passed. I just wish I could have told you that in person before the end. I love you and I miss you dearly.

Your grandson (forever),

Dakota

It was beautiful- and after reading other posts,I see how appreciated you are for it by those close to you all . I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you . Take care of yourself and each other.

So sorry to hear of Uncle Tony’s death. Although I only have memories of him from my teens they are all happy ones and I know that my mum and dad (Heather and Cyril) were so very fond of him. My gran and grandpa doted on him too! Sorry that the last years have been so tough and love to the Parnell family in this difficult time.

My sincerest sympathy on the death of Tony. As the Director of Perioperative Services at St. Joseph’s hospital I worked with Tony for many years. It was my honour to know him both as a colleague and friend. Condolence from Jennifer Edwards on November 11th, 2018 11:00 PM

This is many years too late, but I have ordered Mr. Parnell’s book as my Grandfather was a POW with him and is mentioned in his book, his name is Mel Edwards and was an absolute inspiration to me, as well as my Grandmother Carole. I look forward to reading the book as it’ll be the closest to reading what my Grandfather went through while a POW. My deepest condolences to Mr. Parnells family many years later, our Grandfathers will never be forgotten. From Jennifer Edwards, Ontario Canada.
