We are sending our love to all of you from Alberta.
Wishing we could be closer, especially at a time like this.
We should all hope to have a life as full and happy as Great-Grandma’s seemed to be. How blessed we are to have had 5 generations alive and well for even a short time. I know Rebecca will have her chance to meet Grandma Ollie one day, …and until then we are reminded not to take any year, week or even a day for granted.

Condolence from Ray and Judy Mills on November 5th, 2010 9:29 AM

Please accept our deepest sympathy at your loss. I have known Ollie since I was a little girl attending Centralia Church. She was even my CGIT leader at one time, and that is where I have many memories of her. I can not remember anything particular that she taught me, but I do remember her faithfulness and her openness in that organization. When we moved to Centralia village, we lived across from you mom and dad for a short period of time. I always remember your mom and dad as good neighbours, friendly when out, waving when they went by, offering ideas or assistance when it was needed, just being good, all-around neighbours. What a coincidence it was for us to become neighbours again when we moved to our new location, across the road from Jack and Ollie. Once again, they remained friendly, caring people. Although we did not get together often, other than at church and meeting as we passed by, we always knew we could count on them if we were in need of help.
I remember a time, years ago, when we were up at the church, preparing for a supper or a wedding, and a thunderstorm started, complete with thunder and sharp lightning. It was quite noticeable through the window in the kitchen as we tried to hurriedly do our jobs. It was your mother who said something like, “Okay, that’s enough. We all need to get away from the window, get our hands out of the water, and come into the other room and sit down for a few minutes. This storm will soon pass and then we can get back to work.” And we all went into the other room, chatted, and waited for the storm to stop, which of course it did soon enough. I often think of your mother when there is lightning and how staying away from the windows is a wise piece of advice. But I always remember her when we have a church function and there is a thunderstorm. I tell all those around me about that occasion years ago, and where the window was, and what Ollie said and what we all did. Her advice reminds us all to take five minutes during a busy schedule to visit, to chat, to reminisce, just to be neighbours.
That five minutes means more to us all than the whole day of working together. I thank your mother for that lesson of life. I know you all have many memories of your mom and I hope that they will bring your peace and help to comfort you as you grieve. God bless you all.
Most sincerely,
Ray and Judy Mills

Karen and Joan and Jean, sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. I remember her with admiration as we grew up in the village. She was always ready to listen and teach and as a child I knew she could be counted on to be fair. I have no doubt that her inspiration will live on.
