Passed away suddenly at the Seaforth Community Hospital with his family by his side on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the age of 71. Cherished husband of Judy (Armstrong) Nuhn for over 48 years. Loving dad of Jordan and Amber Nuhn, Lindsay Nuhn, and David and Emily Nuhn. Proudest grandpa of Dylan, Forrest, Heath, and Meadow. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Dennis and Laurie Nuhn, Bill and Yumi Nuhn, Dave Button, Gerald and Barb Armstrong, Marilyn and Robert Newbigging, and Kevin Armstrong. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Ross and Doreen Nuhn, his sister Cheryl Button and his parents-in-law Don and Martha Armstrong.
Brian grew up on a farm near Gowanstown in Perth County where he developed his love for animals. He attended high school in Listowel. After marrying Judy in 1976, he graduated from Ontario Veterinary College at Guelph University, and they moved to Seaforth in 1978. They stayed in the area and raised their family in the community where he ran his small and large animal veterinary practice. While he sold his large animal practice in 2001 and small animal practice in 2010, he only officially retired at the end of 2024.
Brian was talented and loved to sing. He was also an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast, storyteller, fisherman, #1 sports fan, loving and supportive husband, father, grandpa and friend. He lived his life for his family and friends whom he cherished and often made sure to tell how proud he was of all of them.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 87 Goderich Street West, SEAFORTH on Wednesday, April 16th from 5 – 8 PM.
Brian’s memorial service will be held at the Egmondville United Church, 26 Kippen Road, EGMONDVILLE on Thursday, April 17th at 11 AM. Private family interment Egmondville Cemetery. View Brian’s service here https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1EBpMu3jqZ/
In lieu of flowers, donations to Egmondville United Church, the Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation, or Huron Hospice would be appreciated by the family.

(Dr) Brian Nuhn was a good old fashion vet and family friend too.
He actually saved my childhood horse by stitching up a 2ft wound and giving me strict instructions and telling me I could do it.
He also did a C-section on my favourite pregnant dog and revived all 10 of her puppies!
He was even a source of support to me when I was going thru a difficult time in my life, by listening to me during vet appts.
He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

Judy, David, Jordan, Lindsay and all your family as well as Brian’s many friends, my sincere sympathy to you all. We were so blessed to have Brian and Judy choose our community to live, work, and raise their family. Brian epitomized the facets of life in a small town. One day he’s stitching up your dog, the next he’s cruising around the golf course with a beer in his hand, or yelling at the top of his lungs in the curling club, “SWEEP”, and the next singing in the church choir or Harmony Kings. As an avid animal lover, with many pets who benefitted from Brian’s skill, knowledge, and compassion, I salute him from all my four legged friends whose lives were improved by Brian. I will miss his smile and positive attitude. Judy and family you have my deepest condolences.

We are so sorry to learn of Brian’s sudden passing. He always had a smile on his face & a twinkle in his eye. It was always nice to see Brian when we had to take our dog to the vet clinic, he was always so kind. I was in HuronSong Chorus along with Brian for a number of years, he had a strong singing voice, but often had to be reminded to stay focused, which would bring a chuckle to those around him. He always enjoyed a good time. He will be missed in the community. The whole family has our sincere condolences. Keeping you all in our prayers, that you find healing & joy once again.

As classmates through OVC , our friendship spanned over 50 years. Brian could lighten up many tense situations, whether we were going into extra innings in a tie OVC ‘78 baseball playoff game, or preparing for final exams. He had a way to make everyone in his presence relaxed & focus on the task. Brian’s easy going nature drew you in & want to spend time with him. He was fun to be around . It’s been an honour to be his colleague & friend. (Rit’s )
My sincerest sympathies Judy and family. Brian treated various pets of ours over the years with great care. He will be greatly missed.

We were very sad and shocked to hear about Brian’s sudden death. The Nuhn’s have long been part of our family’s story, and we will miss Brian’s love of life, and his friendship. Our love and thoughts are with you all.
Brian was one of the first of many local employers who happily became involved with the Cooperative Education programme at Seaforth District High School. His students not only observed his tremendous compassion for all animals, but quickly learned through osmosis the importance of loving your chosen career and many of the other values that a positive work ethic brings to everyday life. I really enjoyed my visits with him!
Dear Judy and family, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. Cherish all the happy memories and may they give strength to you and peace at this difficult time . Sincerely Cor and Gerda VandenHoven.

Very sincere, heartfelt condolences to Judy and Brian’s much-loved family. I too have a big, aching hole in my gut at this time and will miss that wonderful, lovable, crazy guy. Brian was definitely a unique, one-of-a-kind, special man – generous, kind, authentic, humble, accomplished veterinarian and a very funny, great storyteller. We shared many good times and laughs together at OVC, vet hockey tournaments, vet conferences (Chuck and Nuhner were legendary in that regard), various social events and recently we even shared similar health concerns. Brian lived an exceptional, full and happy life… a life well-lived. God bless, buddy.

Brian was one of the first people I got to know when I entered OVC in 1977. We had great laughs at frat events and many events after graduation. Through his attitude I saw that OVC didn’t have to be overwhelming- a time and place for work and play.

May he rest in peace and may you find comfort in knowing we care. We are holding you close in our hearts.
My sympathies to Judy and family.
Brian was a wonderful neighbouring colleague. I managed to to get away from OVC a year before Brian, but he was already well established in Seaforth when I finally returned to my hometown,Mitchell, years later to practice. We managed neighbouring mixed animal practices, traded a few clients back and forth, were at conferences and meetings, and played hockey and golf together. The stories , jokes, and laughs came easy for Brian. He often helped me put things in perspective. I’ll miss going to the occasional London Knights game with you Brian.
Rest in pease.
Judy,

Dear Judy and Family.
My sincere condolences on your loss.
I have fond memories of Brian from Vet school and our OVC 78 reunions, Brian being a regular attendee as was I. We have more reunions to come, there will be a hole, he will be missed.
Donna Spracklin, another OVC 78 classmate.
Brian was a wonderful guy and a sympathetic vet. We had a cat that went from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde when we took him to the vet clinic. Brian offered to visit him at home. So along with that cat and our other two, and our neighbour’s two cats, Brian would do “herd health”, examining all the cats and dispensing injections at our home. This went on for years.
Just one example of his kind, generous nature.
Dear Judy, Jordan, Lindsay, and David: Rev. Tom passed on the sad news of Brian’s passing. We have so many treasured memories of him and of time with members of your family. Brian filled a room with warmth and laughter. We’re sorry an out-of-town commitment prevents us from paying our respects in person. Holding you in prayer.
Judy and Family,
May the many happy, fun and loved memories of Brian give you peace and comfort during this challenging time. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered by many. We are thinking of you.
Vicki, Sean, Kyra, Camden, Kerrington & Kaelin
To Brian’s Family. I send my deepest sympathies to you with the sudden passing of Brian. I was a neighbouring veterinarian for decades. I completed the dairy module course with Brian where we enjoyed 2 years of fun and laughter with him. He served his community faithfully and that commitment should be remembered. He had a jovial and fun-loving character which could light up any room. We will miss Brian but we will remember him.
To Judy and family..condolences to all of you on the passing of Brian. He always had a smile, a joke, a hearty laugh and such a wonderful singing voice. He looked after many of our pets over the years with care and compassion. He will be remembered for his caring ways in our community. Sending you hugs and prayers.

My sincere condolences to you all. I will always remember Brian for his warmth, kindness and his humour. A recent memory is sitting with Brian and his grandchildren enjoying snacks after church one Sunday. There was lots of teasing and fun going back and forth across the table from all directions. It was obvious how much he loved being a grandpa and how much his grandchildren loved him.
The tributes to Brian this morning were wonderful. It was a wonderful celebration of life for a wonderful person. Hold tight to the shared stories and good memories. There will be many.
Thinking of you all.
Trish
To Judy and family,
Oh what sad, sad news it was to hear of Brian’s sudden passing, my deepest condolences and heartfelt thoughts are with you now.
As most have said my mind is filled with the hardiest of laughs I’ve ever had with someone, and the most colourful stories ever shared. My most vivid: trying to navigate down a curling rink me as lead, Brian as second, sweeping our guts out for you know who’s shall we say ever so slow rock, and trying to laugh and catch my breath all at the same time- those OVMA spiels with Brian are etched in my mind and the humour that flowed made every hard swept rock a pure pleasure . Never a dull moment had, and the times spent with Brian whether discussing vet medicine or his shenanigans with his NOVA pals on and off ice will be forever remembered and forever missed.
I have spent much time with Nuhner over the 36 years since I met him – a week at the end of May for at least 17 years at the week long Algoma Veterinary Conference – fishing and expounding wisdom on Manitoulin Island and at Laurentian Lodge North of Elliot Lake – many another weekend curling in the annual Ontario Veterinary Medical Association Bonspiels and then at the Northern Ontario Veterinary Association Bonspiels later during those transition years – another weekend at the OVMA Annual Conference in Toronto in Januarys for many years – and of course the long weekends each year at the NOVA Conferences in Septembers – even at few Canadian Veterinary medical Association Conferences over the years in the summer – never once saw him at a lecture – never once questioned his beautiful humanness – I have so many fond memories of Nuhner, Nuhner stories and Nuhnerisms that its easy to forget that I will miss hearing him sing and laugh again – I was blessed to have known him
To Brian’s Family and Siblings. Just learning of Brian’s untimely passing, I extend my sincere sympathy and within about six months of Doreen’s passing. May knowing others are remembering and thinking of you help you through this heavy grief. Kind regards. Lois Reoch
Dear Judy and Family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences. I’m so very sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. He was such a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
My heartfelt condolences to you and your family Judy on Brian’s sudden passing.
I have such fond memories of our years at Grey Central and LDSS and recall that our paths last crossed at a reunion for the LDSS choir.
Brian was truly loved and respected by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a friendly, positive person who excelled in his profession and his family and community life. I had the privilege of playing softball with Brian for five years with the Turf Club and have many fond memories of those years. Sincere condolences to Judy and family.
Judy and your family:
I have read all the many many wonderful good things from your friends in the above notes….and there is nothing more to add.
He never laughed or a thing when I phoned one night at 9 p.m. worried about my little pup chewing into my thyroid pill bottle.
your neighbour behind you with a hug,
June
Sorry this is so after the fact but to Dr. Nuhn’s family I wanted to tell you what a Special Veterinarian that he was. He was helping out at the Seaforth Vet clinic a few years ago when they still did on call on the weekends when I had to take my beloved cat there who was very sick. He was so kind and compassionate to both my cat and myself and did everything he could while keeping in close contact with me throughout. I will never forget this. I know you do not know me but my prayers are with you.

Brian was always inviting when I returned to Huron County in my late 20s, (relatives in Mitchell, Kincardine, Owen Sound, Lion’s Head and Markdale) and laughed when telling him stories about milking cows in Manitoba during the Flood of 97, as well as the -40 winter milking there. He was so blessed to have supportive family like all of you. Official veterinary medicine elluded some of us due to life challenges and circumstances, however he was always able to give life advice to set someone with discouraged energies back up into Hope. He was a collaborator, and a transmuter of happiness and fun!
Heaven has gained a fabulous angel – which I’m sure will be felt througout the county.
With love from The West, as family in farming (originally the OS and 6/10 crew) here ages,

I always enjoyed speaking and fishing and celebrating with Brian each year in Algoma. Truly the quintessential Veterinarian. I hope Dennis Prodan and he are having a beverage somewhere right now now. I am truly sorry that he is gone.
To Dave and all of the Nuhn family: Our sincerest condolences to all of the Nuhn family on the passing of Brian. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Dennis and Dianne Dosman
Dear Judy and family ,
I’m sending you condolences for the passing of Brian . Such a great man . He has left a great hole in our family .
The years we came to your place for the Armstrong Family Reunions, Brian was always welcoming to us and such a gracious host. He will be forever missed but fondly remembered.
Today is Jordan’s birthday and it will be bittersweet, not having his Dad here to celebrate.
Sending you love and hugs from Char and Jim Brogly
