After a long and courageous battle with brain cancer, Eugene passed away at Rotary Hospice, Stratford on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the age of 66. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Meikle) Nolan for 37 years, and a devoted father to Anthony Nolan and his wife Kathryn (Ireland), Katelin Welch and her husband Douglas, and Kristen Nolan. Eugene was a proud and adored Papa to Anna, Adalyn, Joseph, Adrian, and Arthur Nolan, and Everett and Dawson Welch.
Eugene was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Helen (Murray) Nolan. He was a dear son-in-law to Carlyle and Penny (Scott) Meikle, and a loving brother and brother-in-law to Gail (Gary) Sararas, Donna (Dean) Cornish, Dan (Rhonda) Nolan, Mary (Ted) Janmaat, Louise (Frank) Flanagan, Marg (Steve) McAuley, Pam (Brad) Beuttenmiller, Doug (Cheri) Meikle, Geraldine (Kevin) Coyne and Karen (Rick) Meikle.
Eugene dedicated his life to working hard in support of his family, never shying away from the tough path. He chose the demanding and dangerous work of building and repairing bridges, a job that required strength, grit, and unwavering commitment. True to his character, Eugene never asked anyone to do something he wouldn’t do himself. He often said, “If you aren’t bleeding at the end of the day, you aren’t working hard enough.” Beyond his tireless work ethic, Eugene found joy in life’s simple pleasures: being outdoors, tinkering in his shop, mowing the lawn, and most of all, relaxing on the front porch with his
wife, his dogs, a cold beer, and a good old port cigar.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 87 Goderich Street West, SEAFORTH on Monday, December 29th from 4 – 7 PM. Eugene’s Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 22 Victoria Street, Seaforth on Tuesday, December 30th at 11 AM. Interment St. Columban Cemetery.
Donations to Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth, Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario or the St. Columban Cemetery would be appreciated by the family.

My deepest condolences to the Nolan and Meikle family as you grieve the loss of Eugene! I have fond memories of many interactions with the Nolan children when we visited our grandparents Mary and Jack McIver who lived across the road, but I’d be hard pressed to say which Nolan child was which, even back then! I just know there was a lot of love and laughter and that Eugene will be missed by a lot of family and friends who cherished him and kept that large circle of love around him until the battle folded and peace was granted.
So sorry to hear of Eugene’s passing. He was one of a kind.

Growing up, visiting the Nolan farm, I always thought Eugene was so much older than I was. Of course, 4 years seems like a long time when you’re young. My memories of him, as with all of my Nolan cousins, is of a smiling, welcoming, easy going, young guy. What a huge loss for your family.
