Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On April 14, 2025 @ 8:59 AM In Exeter,Obituary | 16 Comments

Passed away unexpectedly at LHSC – University Hospital with family and friends by his side on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at the age of 56. Cherished husband and best friend of Jennifer (Lautenschlager) Nicholl; married for 11 years but have been long time friends since high school. Loving son of Patricia and the late William Nicholl and son-in-law of Larry and Carole Lautenschlager. Proud father of Gary Nicholl (Kailey), and the late William Nicholl (2024) and stepfather of Kayla Beisel (Daniel Liu), and Courtney Beisel. Adored Papa of Alice, Arlo, Aspen, Odin, Elsie, and Aria. Brother of Terry (Nicki), Tammy (Darrell) and brother-in-law of Jeff (Melissa), late Greg (Adrienne). Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, the Zettler and Nicholl families and many extended family and friends.
Steve was a talented man in everything he did. Helping family and friends with anything they needed, brought him great enjoyment. He loved wood working, BBQing and surrounding himself with his people. Steve bravely battled Polycystic Liver Disease and Polycystic Kidney Disease for many years. He was an ambassador for PLD and PKD and supported anyone going through similar challenges. After patiently waiting and a few “dry runs” for a liver transplant, he finally received the news he had been longing for. His hopes soared and he felt a renewed sense of optimism about the future. Unfortunately, despite this bright moment, there were post surgery complications and tragically, we lost him.
To my husband and best friend: You are my “rock, paper scissors”. You always knew I would pick scissors so I would lose! I fell for it every time. Your mom will miss your 3:10 phone calls, Stevie . I love you always, forever and will miss you tremendously! See you on the other side. Xo, Love, Jen
To my father, “I will hold onto everything you have taught me forever”. Love, Gary
A celebration of Steve’s wonderful life will be held at a later date.
Donations to Steve’s family to assist with financial burden would be appreciated https://www.gofundme.com/f/steven-nicholl
The family wishes to thank the staff at University Hospital, specifically the MCICU, MOTU – 4th floor Transplant Unit; Coordinators Ashlee W. and Amy C., along with the transplant team for their care and compassion shown to Steve and his family.
Steve’s Core Values: “Love my wife and kids, care for close friends, help friends, drop anything for a true friend, be one who cares more about family and friends than money.”

Steve was such a fun loving guy. He helped us with so many household projects. Always with a smart assed joke or comment that made us laugh and smile. When we went on vacations, he was always the best entertainment, the life of the party.
This is a huge loss in our lives. We will miss you Steve.
We will miss Steve. He was always supportive and hopeful.
From his PLD friends
Steve was my cousin and a dear friend.
My brothers Mike and Jason and I grew up with Steve, Terry and Tammy. Some of the fondest memories of my childhood are the endless summer days, days growing up in the campsite on the Saugeen River, with our cousins as our best friends.
Steve and I always managed to stay in touch and our childhood friendship endured into our adult lives. Steve had a great sense of warmth and fun. I will miss our long chats, Steve was so good to talk to, he was a great listener and had a great way of looking at things.
My husband Todd and I will miss Steve, and are so sorry for your loss.
Todd and Sherry McGlynn.
