NEVIN: Joyce Ardelia (Lucas) of Lucan

April 11, 1942 – October 1, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joyce Nevin announces her passing on October 1st, 2025, in her 83rd year. Born to Bud & Dorothy Lucas, in her grandmother’s house in the hamlet of Middlemiss, Ontario. Joyce grew up in a large and lively family with her eleven siblings. From her earliest days, she radiated a joy for life and a deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms—whether found in a flower, a pet, or a heart of another.

Joyce leaves behind her beloved husband Glen Nevin, who she shared 61 years of cherished memories, whether it be boating on the Bac-N-Forth or travelling around the world. The mother of Jeff (Laurie) Nevin of Lucan, Wendy (Mac) O’Neil of Chicago, and Shannon (Robert) Pretli of San Antonio. The proud grandmother to Maggie (Jeremy), Abigail (Thomas), Samuel, Ryder, Nicholas, and Amelia. Joyce was also blessed to become a great grandmother earlier this year to Callan, who brought her immense joy and pride. Survived by brothers Ronald Lucas (Beverly), Keith Lucas (Joan), David Lucas (Linda) and sisters, Sharon Bidtnes (Toby), Judy Mackey, Bonnie Brammer, Debbie McGuire (Joe), and Valerie Gough, and her in-laws Karl & Joey Nevin. She was predeceased by her brothers Terry & Bob Lucas, and her sister Liz Mann. Joyce will be fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her fur babies Daisy and Danny Boy.

Joyce was an animal lover, especially dogs and cats—never turned away a stray in need. Her deep connection to nature, her flower beds and butterflies reflected the beauty and grace she brought to the world around her. She also enjoyed her many years of singing, especially her time with the Sweet Adelines throughout the years.

She was an avid collector of retail treasures and couldn’t resist the urge to shop until she dropped. Joyce also loved socializing, parties and dancing—she never had a problem finding a new friend anywhere she went. She will be remembered for her warmth, wit, and sparkle.

Those who knew Joyce will remember her for her unwavering love of family, her generosity of heart, and her radiant enthusiasm for life. She had a fondness for new experiences, beautiful things, and the simple joy of sharing laughter with those she loved the most. Joyce’s legacy lives on through the family she nurtured, the friends she cherished, and the countless lives she touched with her warmth and grace.

Words of remembrance to honour Joyce will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Thursday, October 23rd at 7 PM, with a celebration of life to follow.

Glenn, Wendy, Jeff, and Shannon,

My memories of your wife/mother have always been close to my heart. I thought she was the most beautiful woman in Lucan. As the regular babysitter, I would see her and your Dad dressed to attend many Lions Club dances and social gatherings. You were living up above the town office at the beginning, then the White House. I clearly remember her love for animals as well. Her family was her top priority and I could see that as a young teen.
Please accept our sincere condolences. RIP Joyce.
