John & Lorraine – We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Florence. She was a friendly, happy, generous, talented lady who could do anything she attempted. A lover of gardening and crafting, she kept busy throughout her life. Florence spent several years teaching the neighbour gals the intricies of tube painting. Her classes were always full of laughter and fun bantering plus her encouragement to keep going toward improvement. Florence will be missed by all who knew her. Cherish your memories.

During my many visits with Flo over the years, we shared our memories of farming, and when each of of lived in Lucan. Flo was one of the first people to welcome us to Parkview West saying if you are from Lucan you will be fine here. R.I.P. Flo. You will be missed

My condolences to all the family. I well remember Florence when we both lived in Lucan. Florence lived on Market Street beside the Jim & Bernice Lockyer welding shop. Cherish your memories.

We are saddened by the loss of Florence. Will miss her phone calls and chatting with her. Many memories of Prospect Hill, Ross (Buddy) remembers those times since he was 4 years old and being with Charlie. After Charlie and Florence were married she became a part of the family and we continued to stay in touch. Florence loved to put the pedal to the metal and was very proud of that. We are thinking of you John and Lorraine at this time. She will be missed.

Sorry to hear of Florence’s passing. We had a lot of good times growing up across the road from Florence and Charlie. We received a lot of her baking. May your memories of her comfort you.

Florence and Charlie’s yard was part of the path we rode our bikes on hundreds of times as kids growing up in Prospect Hill. They never minded us going through their yard and we often stopped to chat, check out the garden, or enjoy some cookies. Florence was a kind, friendly and helpful soul and I will remember her fondly as part of the wonderful neighbourhood I grew up in.

The Prospect Hill gang will miss you, Florence. You and Charlie (and your cats!) were a big part of my childhood.
Lots of stories and history will pass on with Florence. She knew everyone, and remembered everything! Rest in peace.

Florence and Charlie were wonderful neighbours to the Waugh family for many years. I will miss the regular chats Florence and I had on the phone after we had both left Prospect Hill. She will be missed by many. My condolences to John and Lorraine.

I am so sorry to hear of Florence’s passing, John & Lorraine. I will be echoing so many of the sentiments being expressed by everyone, especially Val & Alison. We moved into Holden’s farm across the road from Florence and Charlie when I was about 5 and my brother and I were the youngest of the “brat pack” Prospect Hill gang of kids who spent hours of our childhood riding our bikes up and down the road and through their driveway, past the back garden and duck shed to the path that would complete the circuit to Brown’s, pass Gagen’s for penny candy and back down the road when the sun was setting. I clearly remember helping Florence with evening chores, just me and her, and my favourite job was feeding the pigs. Her baking was truly renowned and I often told her she should open a bakery, to which she would always reply, she “would never have time for that”. I wonder if some of my love of cooking came from her…again, I remember being in her little kitchen, showing me how to make sugar cookies, squirting dough out of a gizmo that would make any variety of shapes, bread dough, without a recipe, because she would say when asked for one, that she didn’t use recipes 😊 Others were always fore most in her heart. She and my grandmother, made fast friends over their love of crafts and sewing, she and Charlie had a permanently open door for visits and tours of their garden, her latest rose bush purchase, and hosting neighbourhood dinners where the kids always got their own specially set table in her living room, which in my eyes was magically filled with all her craft and sewing supplies and projects, she taught me one of the first piano songs I knew. Every year at Christmas, one of my daughters’ most cherished pieces to come out of the boxes, remains to this day, an animated dancing Santa, that she gave to my girls and one to my nephews that still worked until last Christmas, but remains on prime display in our house, 20 years later. Florence- you and Charlie had an imprint on all those who came into your life and will always be responsible in some part for the people that we have all become.❤️

Dear John & Lorraine: In Feb I just learned Florence had passed and fond memories returned. I knew them back before 1967, when I left the neighbourhood, for my career. Old, old Powell neighbours at the other end of Prospect Hill Road. As an update lived in Mississauga for 50+ years, moved back to Exeter where streets aren’t yet 6 lanes.
