Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On April 16, 2025 @ 10:19 AM In Obituary,Seaforth | 60 Comments

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of James ‘Jim’ McIntosh, who passed away at his home on April 12, 2025 in his 88th year. Reunited with his wife of 62 years, the late Brenda Eileen McIntosh (née Turner) (2023). He will be lovingly remembered by his children daughter Carol Leeming (Tim Cook), and son Ross (Barb) McIntosh. Dear grandfather of Jessie (Jeff) Greidanus, Laura Leeming, and Troy Leeming (Davis Steffler); Kirsten, and Dugald McIntosh; and dear great-grandfather of 6 great-grandchildren.
Dear brother and brother-in-law of Mary (Lawrence) Butt. Jim will also be remembered by his nieces, nephew, family, friends and neighbours.
Jim is predeceased by his parents James C. & Vera (Crozier) McIntosh, father and mother-in law Bill and Hazel (Moffatt) Turner, and brother-in-law Ron Turner.
Jim grew up on a farm in Tuckersmith Township, attended high school in Seaforth and then headed off to the University of Guelph where he graduated from the Ontario Agriculture College in 1959 with his BSc and in 1961 with a Masters Degree in Poultry Nutrition. At the U of G he met his future wife Brenda and together they moved back to his home farm in 1961, built a house next to his parents farm house; and he was hired to be the new Clerk of the Township of Tuckersmith with the office operating from the farm.
Jim grew the farm and focused on laying hens, pullets and a cropping operation. Together with Brenda, he dedicated his life to agriculture and was always a promoter of ‘local’. He was actively involved with the Huron County Federation of Agriculture and OFA, the Huron County Egg Farmers and represented Huron as a Director to the Egg Farmers of Ontario for many years. He was involved with the Van Egmond Foundation, Blyth Festival Board and the local Liberal Association.
Jim was well known for his love of Ford New Holland tractors, walking his dog, doing word searches, and watching music concerts by Andre Rieu. Jim and Brenda enjoyed travelling across Canada and the world, driving their trailer to Texas for the winter months and touring around in their red Ford Mustang convertible with their dog Taffy.
He was a man who lived his life out loud and can be remembered for his distinctive voice and always having a sense of humor.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER on Saturday, April 26th from 1 – 4 PM with words of remembrance beginning at 2 PM. Donations to the Huron Hospice, Blyth Festival Theatre or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Dear Family
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.
To All Of Jim & Brenda’s Family:
On behalf of Huron Hospice, I offer our deep condolences. Jim & Brenda were great friends and supporters of Huron Hospice. We were so pleased Brenda was able to spend her final days here. I laughed out loud reading the line “He was a man who lived his life out loud…” in the obituary. He sure did. I loved my visits with Jim & Brenda at their home and the laughs we had together. He will be missed, but I’m happy they are together again. In my conversations with Jim since Brenda died, he said he was lonely.
On a personal note, the first time I called Jim after arriving at HH five years ago, he let me know that he and my father had been friends based on their shared involvement with the OFA. They would travel to meetings in Toronto together.
Willy Van Klooster, Executive Director

Dear Carol and the entire McIntosh family,

I am very sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He would often stop in for a visit, and “catch up” My sincere condolences to all of the family, Home with Brenda at last! Shirley (and late)Ronald Rice
We were saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. We enjoyed visiting and playing cards with Jim and Brenda. Losing Brenda and Taffy was very difficult for him. He was lonely and did enjoy our visits at the house and when he stopped with his Mustang in our driveway to catch up. He let us know when he was in hospital so we could visit. May you cherish the happy memories with your children and grandchildren as time goes on. We are thinking of you all during these difficult days and hope the love and support of family and friends bring comfort. RIP Jim.
So sorry to hear about the passing of your father. May God Bless your family.

Extending my sincere condolences on the loss of your dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Know you are in my thoughts as you travel the difficult road ahead.
What a huge loss for the community. There are no shortage of wonderful memories of working and visiting with Jim and Brenda; enjoying french vanilla and “baileys” coffees from Tim Hortons, while chatting about a huge range of topics. Jim was an amazingly generous man who did so much for the Blyth Festival and other charities in the region. Sympathies to Carol and the whole family.
Carol, Ross and family,
We were sorry to hear about your dad.
We are sending thoughts, prayers and hugs to you and your family.
Remember all the cherished memories with him and may they help you in the difficult days ahead.
Dear Carol and family…. It’s very hard to have our parents leave us and life is never quite the same without them, but their love and memories are yours to cherish forever. They are always with you.
❤️ 🫂 ❤️.
Ross, Carol and families our sympathies go to all of you. Jim was a great neighbour and friend. He taught my children about poultry as they worked for him. Throughout the years Jim and Brenda left their mark on the world. And we will miss him and his smile!
Dear Carol, Ross, and Family: We are not always aware when people pass and sadly missed paying tribute to your Mom last year. We have warm memories of your folks and of how patiently they tutored us in the world of farming. Their efforts instilled a life-long admiration in us for farmers and a deep appreciation for Canadian agriculture. On top of that, they were great company. We think of them often with affection. Deepest sympathy,
Our deepest sympathy to all Jim’s family. Keep all the good times close to your heart.
O Jim and Brenda! What an example of dedication to farming and friendship you have been to us over the past 40 years. One fun activity that you shared with us was boating on Lake Huron. The four of us and the dog! We are thankful that we got to spend some fun and thoughtful times together. We will miss you.
Sending our sincere condolences to all of Jim’s family at this sad and difficult time.
I am sorry, Carol, Ross, and the rest of the family and friends, for the loss—my deepest condolences. Jim was a visionary leader whose generosity will continue to impact the Canadian agri-food sector significantly. His family gift to the University of Guelph for a Professorship in Poultry Nutrition in 2013 has been instrumental in helping us to educate and mentor the leaders of tomorrow. As each new challenge presents itself, today’s students will continue to improve upon the industry requirements of tomorrow. I will always cherish the memories of visiting Jim and Brenda at their home in Seaforth with my family and students. Jim was knowledgeable; he could engage you in any topic more deeply and humorously. Truly a Blessing to many with his generosity and kindness. Rest in Peace.
Much sympathy to Carol, Ross, and the McIntosh family.
Jim was a noteworthy presence in our community.
Both he and Brenda showed true leadership in their blending of traditional values and innovative concepts, not only here “at home”, but far afield as well.
Liz Scott, and Janie Golding
My condolences to all your family. Although I never met him, the description of his life and his involvement in agriculture and his community paints a picture of a life well lived.
Bonnie Sitter
Our condolences to Jim and Brenda’s family. They were very proud of you all. Both were very generous with their time and talent volunteering with and making significant contributions to community, provincial and national organizations. In 1959 Jim generously offered me occasional weekend trips home from Guelph in his very quick Ford Fairlane. Brenda joined him more frequently. Later I always enjoyed our meeting up at various community and agricultural events. After lives well lived, may they now rest in peace.
We met Jim and Brenda at Victoria Plans in Donna Texas. We enjoyed their company there and here at Taffy reunions. Jim was a very generous and accomplished individual and leaves a legacy of service. We offer our sincere condolences to the the family. May they both rest in peace and may you find comfort in shared memories.
Ross, Carol and families – our deepest condolences to you all. Jim sounded like a wonderful man. Thinking of you during this difficult time. May you find comfort in the cherished memories of your dear dad and (great)grandfather.

Our sympathy to Jim’s family. Jim and Brenda gave many local youths including our own children their first job either stone pickling or gathering eggs. They always treated them with respect and kindness. The community has lost a good man.
Jim’s family and friends,
We will definitely miss seeing Jim zip by in his little red convertible! He always gave a big wave. What a wonderful life he had and there will be lots of memories for everybody to talk about!
Dear Family of Jim and Brenda McIntosh: We extend our sincere sympathy to all of you in the passing of Jim. Over many years we have enjoyed their company at various functions and lately at Clinton Diners with Jim. It was always great to see the two of them in their convertible cruises. They will be missed by all. Our kind respects. Ken and Margaret Caldwell
To Jim’s family,
We have lost a good neighbour. Always smiled, always treated our children fairly working at their chicken barns and stone picking, and always had a wave on the road. We enjoyed neighbourhood gatherings at their place as they enjoyed “block” parties at our place. We hope Jim is happy with Brenda now.
Our sincerest condolences .
To Jim’s and Brenda’s family and friends,
We send our sincere sympathy to all.
We often remarked about Jim and Brenda coming to visit, (including their dog Taffy). The little red convertible would arrive, then we would gather on our back deck to discuss the problems of the world! It seemed a short time until Jim would announce that it was “time to go” and off they would drive in a flurry of tires spinning and big waves to us. Don’t know who had to most stories – Jim or Neil!
Hugs
Neil and Marie
