MCINTOSH: Brenda (Turner) of Egmondville

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Brenda Eileen McIntosh (née Turner) who passed away peacefully at the Huron Hospice (Bender House) on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, with the love of her family surrounding her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Jim; daughter Carol Leeming (Tim Cook), and son Ross (Barb) McIntosh.

Dear grandmother of Jessie (Jeff) Greidanus, Laura Leeming, and Troy Leeming (Davis Steffler); Kirsten and Dugald McIntosh; and dear great-grandmother of 5 great-grandchildren. Dear sister-in-law of Mary (Lawrence) Butt. Brenda will also be remembered by nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

Brenda will be missed by their beloved dog Taffy (who is always waiting for crusts after breakfast and to lick a plate clean) and cat Benji (who is always getting into trouble).

Brenda is predeceased by her parents Bill and Hazel Turner; brother Ron Turner; father and mother-in law James C & Vera McIntosh.

Brenda was born in Guelph, November 15th, 1939, to her parents William (Bill) Turner and Hazel and grew up on Kathleen Street. Brenda first worked at a car dealership, then got a job as a Secretary at the University of Guelph in the Poultry Department where she met her future husband Jim. She worked there for 5 years before moving to Tuckersmith Township to Jim’s family farm where she got married and started her family. Brenda kept busy for many years in their home office working as Deputy Clerk for the Township of Tuckersmith when Jim was Township Clerk.

Brenda became a farmer and helped Jim grow their farming business. Together, they spent many long days getting crops planted and harvested, and working in the pullet or layer barns. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, and baking and had treats to offer anyone who came in her door.  Brenda was involved in the community and served as the President of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, a Board Member of the Van Egmond House-Museum and a member of the Seaforth & District Horticultural Society.

Brenda and Jim retired from the farm to Egmondville, met new great neighbours and spent time finishing crosswords or word-search’s together while watching YouTube orchestra performances from Andre Reiu, OR going out for a tour in their much-loved red mustang convertible. Of all their travels, Brenda and Jim most enjoyed the many many years they drove their truck and camper trailer to Texas for the winter, met up with neighbours, made new friends and many cherished memories.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Candi Flynn and the staff and volunteers at the Clinton Hospital and the Huron Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held at the Seaforth and District Community Centre, 122 Duke Street, on Sunday, April 28th with words of remembrance at 2PM and come and go reception to immediately follow from 2:30 – 4:30 PM. Haskett Funeral Home, SEAFORTH entrusted with arrangements.

Donations to the Huron Hospice or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Condolence from Matt and Aimee Townsend and family on December 30th, 2023 9:22 AM

Jim, Carol, Ross and families, please accept our condolences. I’m reflecting upon memories of the hours Brenda spent driving the tractor what seemed liked miles up and down the fields while we picked stones, often while she yelled at Cleo (one of many poodles the family owned) to come back as she roamed away. Thoughts of the volumes of data that Jim and Brenda collected for the farming operation that needed recorded and also the homemade milkshakes she would often provide after the chickens were caught. I giggle at the last as I’m sure those milkshakes contained eggs if I’m not mistaken. Oh the irony! Keep the memories close to your heart. I’m sure you will find comfort in them as I have.

Dear Jim, Carol, Ross and families,
My heartfelt condolences to you all on the passing of Brenda.

I have many happy memories of farm life at McIntosh Poultry Farms Ltd – early morning chores and late nights helping with harvest. Picking eggs, picking stones, catching chickens, field work, fixing equipment, welding, building, wiring, plumbing … and a 1000 other things … the best education I received anywhere was on your farm!

Jim; you and Brenda were a great team and you accomplished a lot together in your 62 years. You helped a lot of people along the way – I owe much of my life’s successes to lessons learned working for you and Brenda – thank you.

Wishing you comfort and God’s blessing in the days ahead.

Warmly,
SDM

Condolence from Wayne Caldwell on January 9th, 2024 8:54 AM

Dear Jim and Carol and families
We were saddened to hear of Brenda’s passing. She was an engaged, kind and giving person. I had the good fortune of knowing her through her work in Huron County and also through the support of Jim and Brenda at the University of Guelph. Her contributions and leadership – both local and provincial – will be missed. With our deepest sympathies.
Wayne and Deborah Caldwell

To James, Carol, Ross and family
My sincere condolences to you all. Great memories of Brenda and Jim. They welcomed us to Huron and my kids enjoyed playing with Taffy and a ride in Mustang. May Brenda rest well. Will keep your family in my prayers.

Dear Jim and Family,

Its a long time since you befriended a young construction worker back in 1973. Brenda and Jim were both mentors through the Federation of Agriculture and a tag team of farm leaders. I am saddened at your loss and gladdened for the years of encouragement and friendship.

Thinking of you at this difficult time. Brenda definitely lit up the room wherever she went. Cherish those precious memories you shared together.
