Dear Marion and family,

I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Mr. McCurdy was a kind man and a wonderful teacher who always worked to ensure his students were succeeding in and out of the classroom. And the fact that he took the time to tell us about the sacrifices made by Canadian veterans on each Remembrance Day shows the value he placed on honouring those who gave their life for our country. He will be missed.

Condolence from Dana Woodhouse-Nagy on September 26th, 2013 10:27 PM

Dear Aunt Marion,
My first memory of Uncle Chub was walking down the stairs to his barber shop when I was three. He was wearing his white jacket and seemed huge to me. He sat me on the red chair and made me go up and down and spun me round. He cut my bangs and did tricks with the scissors, then tickled me with the brush. He was always bigger than life to me as a child, with his laugh and booming yells in french. I remember him walking over one summer day when I was a teenager and clipping my bangs back with a bobby pin.

Uncle Chub was a constant to me and to all his neices and nephews: steady, observant, gruff and kind. We always knew he loved us and that he took pride in our achievements. I don’t think many people can say they had an uncle who knew exactly what they were doing in their life. I doubt many uncles took the time he did to make sure each of us understood who we are and where we come from the way he did.

He meant a lot to me. I love him dearly and will miss him always.
Dana

Condolence from Steph Pearson on November 4th, 2013 5:29 PM

Dear Mrs. McCurdy and Family,
I am greatly saddened by the news of the passing of Mr. McCurdy. I think of him every Remembrance Day. He taught me French in grades 4 and 5 and it was always so inspiring to see him in uniform each year Nov 11. He made a mark on me with his stories about his experiences in Korea and is one of the reasons I pursued a career in History. Because of this model, I make a point of teaching my students about veterans each year and Mr. McC is often a part of each of those lessons.

I wear my poppy in honour of him and his works.
