Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On March 14, 2025 @ 8:23 AM In Lucan,Obituary | 18 Comments

Peacefully, with family by his side on Friday, January 17, 2025 of Manitouwadge and formerly of Dorchester at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Fay (Wallace) Martindale for over 52 years. Loving father of Mindy and Jay Squire of Lucan. Proud Poppy of Brendan, Kaley, Reese and Maeve Squire. Dear brother of Wil Travis and brother-in-law of Michael Wescott, Sharon Baylis, Muriel and Bob Whyte, Harvey Wallace and Ligaya Raval. Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Reginald and Marion (King) Martindale, parents-in-law Harvey and Bernice (Griggs) Wallace, brother-in-law Ted Baylis and nephew Todd Baylis.
Pete attended Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay. It was during this time that he met his soulmate and fishing partner Fay. Pete and his new bride first moved to Geraldton in 1972 before settling in Manitouwadge in 1974. Pete & Fay were blessed with a baby girl in September of 1979. Between the junior ranger program, fire crew and his role as a forestry and lands technician, Pete dedicated over 30 years working for the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Pete thoroughly enjoyed time spent in the bush and along the north shores of Lake Superior. Whether fishing, camping, hunting, trapping, trail clearing or snowmobiling, he embraced every opportunity to connect with nature. His love for these activities was only surpassed by his joy in sharing them with his four grandchildren, passing on his knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for the great outdoors.
In his spare time, Pete also enjoyed his time in the workshop, and volunteering with Manitouwadge Sno-Drifters snowmobile club and helping as an organizer during the town’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.
A celebration of Pete’s life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 1-4 PM at The Club House, 4 Station Road, Manitouwadge. Words of remembrance will begin at 2 PM.
If desired, donations in memory of Peter may be made to Sante Manitouwadge Health (Santé Manitouwadge Health, 1 Healthcare Crescent, Manitouwadge, Ontario, P0T 2C0, Bag 1 by cheque or visa or mastercard by telephone (807-826-3251), Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay (www.alzheimer.ca/thunderbay/en), or Wesway of Thunder Bay ([email protected]).

I am very sorry to hear of Pete’s passing. To Fay and Mindy, you both have my deepest condolences.
To put it plainly, he was a great guy and I often enjoyed when he was around. He was never upset or angry and usually cracking a joke or two to make people laugh.
I hope he is at peace.
Thank you for your friendship to me and my family. It was a pleasure to know you.
If there is a heaven, I know you are in it.
To Fay. Mindy and Jay, Brendan, Kaley, Reese, Maeve, and family:

Fond memories of Pete as a Cub Scout in Dorchester and walking the Thames banks. The red-head who refused to wash his face in the very stinky Sulphur water at the farm. Many happy trails cuz.

Dear Fay, Mindy, Jay, Brendan,Kaley, Reese and Maeve:
We have many fond Christmas memories spent with Pete and Fay over the past years at the Don and Judy Squire Farm!Quite often there would be a new bundle of joy to add to our festive celebrations!
Pete had an amazing talent to turn a piece of wood into a unique hand hewn gift that many are fortunate enough to have as a keepsake now!
We will always remember his smile and the twinkle in his eyes when telling stories of fishing with his family in pristine lakes and rivers.
Please accept our “ Heartfelt Sympathy”
Bonnie and Greg Sadler
My only brother is gone. So thankful that Fay and the kids brought such profound love and light to his life.
Thank you, too, to all the friends who have left their kind tributes here.
Pete had a good life. I learned important lessons from my big brother.
Never forgotten, Pete.
