MARRINAN-CALDWELL: Mary Lou of London

Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On June 11, 2018 @ 5:15 PM In Lucan,Obituary | 59 Comments

MARRINAN-CALDWELL: Mary Lou of London

Peacefully into God’s arms, and under the phenomenal care of the team at St. Joseph’s Hospice, London on June 10, 2018 of London, in her 61st year.  Beloved daughter of Joyce (Hodgins) Marrinan of Lucan and the late John Patrick (Pat) Marrinan (2017). Dear sister of Helen and Les McAuslan of Waterloo, Joseph Marrinan and Joanne of Arkona, Debbie and Rob Andrews of Ilderton, Michael Marrinan of Lucan, Jim Marrinan of Fort McMurray, and Dwain and Jenny Marrinan of Lucan. Predeceased by her brother David (1997). Dear aunt of Shawn and Lea; Kelly and Darryl, Kerri and Andrew, Chris and Kim; Kyle and Taylor, Brett and Michelle, Rachel; Cole; Aidan, and Tristan; and great-aunt of Mya, Brooke, Liam, Kylie, Logan, and Carter.

Mary Lou worked with many wonderful people and developed long-lasting friendships over her years at Eatons, The Back Institute, MD Management and most recently Phoenix Interactive Design in London. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend who had a heart of gold and always rooted for the underdog.  She was a #1 Aunt for all her nieces and nephews and created memories that will be cherished forever. She enjoyed watching horse races, especially the years when her brother David was on the bike.  She loved concerts, the casino, road-trips, and country music – especially George Strait.  She had a sign on the wall of her home that said “Life is a journey, enjoy the ride” and she did, for many wonderful years.

Throughout her illness, she was grateful for the love and support from so many people – you know who you are! Our family would like to thank Dr. Fleming, the oncology and palliative care team at LHSC, and the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their care and compassion throughout her illness. Though cancer took her life, it never took her popularity, her smile, her spirit or her determination; and because of this, cancer did not win.  In fact with Mary Lou, cancer never stood a chance.  As she would tell you, “It is what it is.”

Friends and family are invited to gather at the Ailsa Craig Community Centre, 155 Annie Ada Shipley Street, Ailsa Craig on Saturday, June 16th at 1:00 PM for a celebration of Mary Lou’s  life that will begin at 1:30 PM. Cremation with private family interment at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. Haskett Funeral Home, Lucan entrusted with arrangements (519-227-4211).

At Mary Lou’s request, donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, London would be appreciated.

Condolence from Flora Stanton on June 11th, 2018 11:22 PM

My sympathy to all of the Marrinan family. I am so saddened and sorry for your loss. Mary Lou was one of a kind….she loved life and found fun and laughter in everything she did. That infectious laugh endeared her to all she met. I will be forever grateful to have had her in my life and will deeply miss our long chats and laughter and the many “Lou-isms” that always made me smile.
She fought hard to stay with us as long as she could and she did so with remarkable strength and without complaint. She somehow even found humour in some of her experiences, to share and laugh about. I will always be in awe of her positive attitude in spite of what news was given to her. She was simply amazing and inspiring. Lou gave her best to those she cared about; her family and many friends. Her friendship was a gift I will cherish and be thankful for forever. My heartfelt condolences to all of her loving family.

The world is a darker place now that such a bright light has been extinguished. I had the privilege of working with Mary Lou both at Eatons and at Phoenix. Eatons was my first real job as a youngster and Mary Lou was my boss in the record department. Years later when I went in for a job interview at Phoenix she recognized me and said “How’s it going kiddo” with a huge smile. I have never met anyone else like her and I don’t think I ever will again. I am sure if there is a heaven she just showed up and took the party to the next level. I’ll miss her. My condolences to her immediate family and the friends that she made feel like extended family.

Joyce and all of the Marrinan family there is a great emptiness left by Mary Lou’s passing, but I am sure the strength and love you and your family share for each other and for her will get you through this difficult time. I wish I could be as strong and brave as her but I am not. When she called and told me she was on her last lap I got off the phone and wept like a baby. It just wasn’t fair to take such an inspirational, caring LOVING person like her from us. I am thankful she was a dear friend and shared a big part of her life with me. I cherished being in her company. We had so many laughs some tears but most of all we had amazing fun times making lasting memories. I am pretty sure we celebrated 40+ years of St. Patrick’s days even the ones we couldn’t be togeter we would call each other as I did this year when she was unable to attend. It was always a blast celebrating with her. I will miss our nights of dancing and singing our hearts out to George Jones and Patsy Cline. She could always make me smile. Near the end we were panning to get together when the weather got better and when she was having a good day she said she would call and I could come pick her up and we could go sit on a park bench and visit but the nice weather took too long coming. I know she is up in Heaven smiling down on us. I hope she is sitting on that park bench perhaps saving me a seat beside, her.

With all my Love, Jo-Ellen xox
Hugs to all of you. ❤????????.

Some people come into your life for a reason or a season. In Lou the reason was to remove any negativity and ensure we enjoyed life to the max. And she was there as an emotional supporting friend for all four seasons. When I first visited Canada who was the first bright-eyed smiley face to meet and greet me on my first day at Phoenix-Interactive. That attitude never changed no matter what the weather. I loved the Molson Pace nights at the Western Fair and your passion for the pacers and the galloper’s, as long as they weren’t in the same race. It was fitting that you were on this planet to witness another Triple Crown winner last weekend before you signed off.

Life in Canada will never be the same without you, Lou. You have been a wonderful friend to the both of us,
We’ll save a seat at the Top of The Fair table, but it just won’t be the same.

Miss you dearly. Condolences to Joyce and the family,

Thinking of all the family and prayers for you at this sad time. I remember all those special years growing up in Centralia. Climbing into that big old yellow bus with Grandpa Packy as our driver . Gary would never say the rosary loud enough to please him ( on the trips back home ), which led to some excitement ,,,, Oh and what fun we had with those nuns. When I drive bye the family farm , I still think of how jealous I was of how you had ???? horses ( I always wanted a horse ). I did enjoy riding at Hick’s and to this day Iam glued in front of the TV for the Big Three.
MaryLou and Elaine were good friends , we will cherish the good memories ! Our deepest Sympathy Heaven has another Angel ????

Condolence from Rose Ryan on June 17th, 2018 2:13 PM

My heartfelt sympathy to all of the Marrinan family. Words seem inadequate in trying to express and share the loss of a loved one. Mary Lou was a one-of-a-kind individual. I never met anyone like her, and doubt I ever will. She was a glass half full, take no prisoners type of person. Her zest for life and unstoppable spirit made her such a special person.
I met Lou when she worked at Eaton’s. She was managing the record department, and I was across the aisle managing the sewing machine / vacuum cleaner dept. We were in our twenties, young and carefree. We struck up a friendship and spent many a shift trying not to get into too much trouble. She was always excited to get in a new album from her favourite singer or group, and would play it on the stereo in the dept. Regardless if you liked the group or not. She told us we needed to broaden our musical horizon.
I also became a roommate, living with her in the house she owned on Francis St. Never a dull moment there. From trying to figure out why the oven didn’t work. Pilot light was out. She never cooked, so never used it. Only needed a toaster oven she said. The many Friday nights getting ready for a night on the town, and then a long Saturday shift the next day. Her yard sale where the “boys from down the street” came to see what they could use in their clubhouse. Through out it all she made me laugh.
She was a fiercely loyal person. Devoted to her family and friends, who meant the world to her. And yet a private person as well. Never complaining, just meeting life head on.
As you build relationships over time you come to appreciate those whom you are glad were part of your life, regardless of how long that time might have been. For me Lou was one of those people. I will alway think of her with a smile. And that makes her a very special lady.
My thoughts and prayers to all.

I am so sorry to have just received this news and to have missed the service. What a spark, what a life, what a love she was. I worked with her at Eatons for many years, and there was not a day that she did not smile from ear to ear and laugh. She filled a room when she was in it with her beautiful soul and zest for life. We were all blessed to have known her. Last spring she had Shirley Plant and I over for dinner at her condo. Despite her illness, she was full of her usual spunk and vibrancy. I am so glad to have had that visit with her. My condolences to her family, I know she will be missed, but she has certainly left a mark on all of us.
