MANNING: Robert Frank “Bob” of Ilderton

1953 – 2026

Bob passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the age of 72. Cherished husband of Nancy (Hodgins) Manning. Loving dad of JR and Colleen Manning of Daysland, AB, and Chelsey and Jon Passmore of Exeter. Proud Papa of Jacob, Mitchell, Madison, Samuel; and Taylor. Dear brother of Sarah McNaughton and brother-in-law of Joan Taylor, Sandy and Dennis Stead, and Wayne Hodgins and Chris Gauthier. Cherished uncle Bob to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Jean Manning, parents-in-law Bob and Audrey Hodgins and brothers-in-law Jim McNaughton, and Gord Taylor.

Bob will be remembered as a dedicated community man who gave his time generously and made a lasting impact. A proud 4-H Beef Leader in Ilderton, he mentored many young people and supported the future of the beef industry. He was proud to serve 33 years with the Arva and then Ilderton Volunteer Fire Departments.

Bob was Past President of the Ontario Angus Association and co-founder of the Gencor Junior Beef Heifer Show. He was a committed supporter of local initiatives, including Trucking for Kids and the Ilderton Fair, where he served for over 50 years on the Beef Committee and proudly co-sponsored the Mutton Bustin’.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Sunday, April 26th from 2 – 4 PM, where Bob’s funeral service will be held on Monday, April 27th at 11 AM. Private family interment Telfer Cemetery. In Bob’s honour, dress casually and drive your favourite classic car or bobtail your big truck.

BOBBY!

WHO is going to be last at the fire!?

We will miss you buddy… and the community has lost a huge contributor. Trucking for kids and countless other great causes where you gave back.

A man’s legacy is in his family, and I can’t think of a family who is always there for a community event (most times with their sleeves rolled up), more than the Mannings.

Till we meet again Bobby: Be good and get the cart charged up… Em will want to go for a ride.

Love you
Jackie & Scott Moir and Family

Dear Nancy, JR, Colleen and families,
Your dad worked with my family for years; you brought so many good laughs to the barn every morning and to the dinner table each day! We were all so delighted to be invited to your wedding and reception, none more than my little sister who really joined in with the glass clinking…only to learn that that tradition wasn’t just for the bride and groom!
Over the years, Ilderton Fair has become a heart-warming reunion for so many families. Those folks associated with the barn activities, especially the beef sections, 4-H shows, and the pie auction will dearly miss your presence and they way you made every one feel who greeted you. We hope your loss and grieving will be made better by recalling the many wonderful stories about your life partner and dad.

JR, Colleen, Maddison, Sam, Mitchell, Jacob, Nancy, Chelsey and the entire Manning clan

I am so very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing way too soon. The Mannings have played such a vital role in the community for generations and I know Bob was right in there with anything Ilderton.

My parents were friends with Bob’s parents Frank and Jean for years and the rest of the family. From 4H to fall fairs to Good Friday sales to him being there in times of tragedy for my family. Bob’s presence, calm nature and strength was always there for anyone in the community.

Bob, the Manning name will be carried well into the future from JR to Mr Sam.

Rest easy my friend, say hi to your parents for us and enjoy the view of your beautiful family from heaven. You will never be forgotten and your legacy and stories will be told forever
