MACFARLANE: Waltraud (née Piesch) “Wally” of London

Passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the age of 79. Wally was born in Germany, immigrated to Scotland, then Canada when she was a child. She worked for the Board of Education before getting married and becoming a stay-at-home mom. Never one to sit still, Wally started her own business making porcelain dolls and teaching how to make them. She also loved children and operated a homecare daycare for years as well as taking care of children outside the home. Wally was known for her generosity, her talent for baking and pizzas and enjoying a nice cold beer with friends.  She loved travel. For many years she took annual trips to Germany to visit family. Her neighbors over the years were considered some of her closest friends. She will be missed by her children Scott (Janice), Natalie (Craig) and Jennifer (Wyatt), grandson Dashiell, former spouse Joe and niece Rochelle, brother Ron and sister Linda, as well as numerous friends. Wally was predeceased by her parents John and Sophie and brother Ziggy.

A celebration of life will be held in the Garden Room at Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre, 551 Windermere Road, London on Sunday, April 10th from 2 – 4 PM. Due to Provincial COVID-19 restrictions, each person must RSVP. If you would like to attend, please send an email to Natalie at nattm@hotmail.com or speak with a member of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Home, Lucan (519-227-4211). Wally was generous and loved sharing a good meal with others, so in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the London Food Bank. Online condolences may be forwarded through www.haskettfh.com.

Condolence from Susan Phillmore on December 24th, 2021 9:09 PM

We were deeply saddened to hear the news of Wally’s passing.
Thinking of you all as you mourn the loss of a dear mother and grandmother.
It would be remiss at this time of year not to mention our memories of the amazing gingerbread houses created by Wally, and generously shared, when our family was young.
Condolences from the bottom of our hearts.
Bob and Sue Phillmore

Condolence from James Thomas on December 26th, 2021 11:56 PM

Thinking about Scott, Natalie and Jennifer in this sad time. I have many fond memories of your mother. She was always inviting friends to stay for lunch and have a swim in the pool. She tolerated our noisy giggles during sleepovers. She took very good care of all of us. You have my thoughts and prayers.
