MACFARLANE: Joseph Hugh “Joe” of London and formerly of Cape Breton

Peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on May 17, 2023 of London and formerly of Cape Breton at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Mary Thomas (nee Mitchell) for 40 years. Loving father of Scott MacFarlane (Janice), Natalie MacFarlane (Craig Laskey), and Jennifer MacFarlane (Wyatt Chinn), and stepfather of Barb Gillingham (Kevin), Michelle Hill (Kevin), Debbie Stephenson, Jamie Thomas (Leslie) and Amy Mitchell (Ray Khorshied). Very proud Grampy Joe of Dashiell, and Papa of Brandon (Crystal), Kyle (Ashley), Jordan (Amanda), Arden, and Graydon; Rhiannon, Carly (Mike), and Jeremy; Rebecca, and Ben; Scott, and Melanie (Joel); Kareem, Hassan, and Rainah. Adored great papa of Layla, Georgia, Jackson, Winston, Elliott. Dear brother of Raymond MacFarlane. Predeceased by parents Sarah (nee Gillis) and Archie MacFarlane, brother Ronnie, infant brother Jimmy, grandchildren Shane, and Stephanie.

Joe would always help anyone in need, human or animal. He was a great storyteller and will be missed by all who know him.

In keeping with Joe’s wishes cremation has taken place.  Donations to the Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre or the Humane Society of London and Middlesex would be appreciated.

Mary I am are so sorry for your loss Joe and Leonard hit it off so we’ll Both are from Sydney Nova Scotia. Leonard knew Joe,s family. Joe fixed more things around my home.We loved all his stories .Especially when Joe went for a walk. He even had a skunk following him and other animals to. He was so kind and caring. He will meet Leonard up there and with more stories to tell Joe will surely be missed!!❤️❤️

Scott, Natalie, and Jennifer: So sorry to learn of your dad’s passing. What a great group of neighbours we had in Northridge when we were all a lot younger. Joe, George Cook, and myself each had 1/3 share in a snow blower. Joe could sure tell a great story and had a wonderful laugh. My sincere condolences to the entire family.

Condolences to Mary and all the family on the loss of Joe. He was our 1st cousin and the oldest cousin on the Gillis side of the family. We remember Joe – his time with the Boy Scouts, visits to Gramma and Papa Gillis in Gillis Lake, his visits to us in East Bay (Mom was his aunt Catherine), and our visits to their home on Thomas St. , Sydney. It was always fun to visit Joe, Ronnie, and Raymond, our older cousins!! There was no end to interesting stories. Sending you big hugs , Mary!!! RIP Joe. Uncle Joe will be missed by all. He had wonderful stories, and was always there when we needed him. He fixed everything. If you ever mentioned you were looking for a particular piece to repair something, he would appear at your door with it!
