Please accept our deepest condolences, I was so sorry to hear of Slim’s death. He was such a character and I know our VON volunteers enjoyed their visits with him during both his stay at the hospital and again during his time at Bluewater Rest Home. They shared with me the many memories he spoke about throughout his musical career as well as his family. Ray and April, we will keep you and your families in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

April and Ray and Les,

Our sincere condolences in the loss of your Dad and uncle. I remember being at your home so many times in my childhood and your mom and your dad, back in the years.
Until the time he went to hospital, I would have small chats with him at the Times-Advocate or in the grocery store – he always remembered me and my family and the old days.
Just know our thoughts are with you, and we’ll always have these memories.
God Bless

WHAT A WASTE OF GOOD CORN LIKKER
Slim Gordon

I have lost my blue eyed darlin’. Now I sit with a broken heart
By the cabin in the Carolina hills.
Oh, I loved the shiner’s daughter, loved her true with all my heart,
Until she fell into her pappy’s liquor still.

CHORUS: Oh what a waste of good corn liquor,
From the still they pulled the plug.
Now the revenuers snicker cause she melted in the liquor
And they had to bury poor Lilly by the jug.

Cousin Caleb on the Jew’s harp played a mighty mournful tune.
Kinfolks bowed their heads and gathered round.
Then I heard the parson sing, “Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes”
As we watched them pour poor Lilly in the ground. CHORUS

Now I’m sittin in the twilight, ‘neath the weepin’ willow tree.
The sun is slowly sinkin’ in the west,
An’ I’m claspin’ to my bosom a little jug of Lilly May.
With a lonely heart I’m longin’ for her breast. CHORUS

Rock Onward.
he immortalized himself, threw his creations.

Dear April and Ray;
It was a privilege to be entrusted with your father’s care during his stay at Blue Water Rest Home. Slim was a delightful gentleman and everyone who knew him (staff and residents, volunteers and visitors) enjoyed his stories and dry sense of humour. He will be sadly missed and kindly remembered.
