We were very sad to read about Brent in today’s paper. I spent many years as a parent working with Larry, admiring his vision and support for inclusion with respect to the LDCSB and especially for our son, Jordan. I met Brent on more than one occasion doing some community advocacy about inclusive education.
We also remember fondly when Jessica was Jordan’s support worker, and he loved hanging out with Josh as well.

I am saddened to hear that Brent has passed away. He and I had not been in touch for some time, but I had the good fortune to spend time with him on a number of occasions in the past, when our work brought us together in support of children, students and families who were experiencing significant challenges in both school and life. I honestly say that I have never met someone quite like Brent. Tough, but very gentle and compassionate, all in the same package, with every word and suggestion he uttered meant to be a helpful and positive contribution to the needs of the child and family, as well as to the needs of the community in which they lived. Brent wanted everyone to belong and lived his life with the goal of making that happen. An amazing and unique fellow.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Brent. Originally, Brent and Christine were our “boat neighbours” in Bayfield. I didn’t know them well, but there is a personal memory I would like to share with Christine and the rest of the family. When my Father passed away in 2011, it was a very difficult time for our family – my Mother in particular. Brent was incredibly supportive of her during a dark time. I will be forever thankful for the kindness he displayed.

I did also have the pleasure of working as an EA in Holy Name of Mary while he was principal. His positive energy was evident in all interactions I had with him.

May his friends and family draw on the beauty of the memories they have built with Brent. They are something that death can never steal.

So sorry to learn this sad news. I enjoyed chatting with Brent during his short time at St. Michael – and was also so impressed with his principal’s time at Holy Name – where my kids attended. One of my son’s commented on how positive and affirming Brent was – noting how he was present at all the school functions.

I became fast friends with Brent during our first year at Carleton University and it never ceased to amaze me how Brent brought laughter, joy, love and acceptance to every situation. Although we didn’t see each other much after our university days, he always remained in my mind as one of the truly great people that touched my life and the few times we bumped into each other after our university years were just the best.
To Brent’s family, I don’t need to tell you what a wonderful man he was, but please know, he touched more people than you can imagine, and his mark and his spirit will be forever remembered.
I received this news with great sadness, but just remembering the times we had together has brought me so much joy as well.

We first met Mr. Langan when he was the Gr. 7 teacher of our daughter Anulka at St. Theresa Shrine, Scarborough. He was such a possitive influence on all his students and need I say, they all loved him dearly. He has left an indelible mark on all who have met him. We will always remember his beautiful, warm smile and his kind and caring ways .

The world has lost a wonderful soul. Who made a difference, especially in the lives of students that he touched as a caring teacher and I’m sure as a great principal. We are grateful and blessed to have known him.

Dearest Precious Family and Friends of Beautiful Brent,

I was having dinner last night with my Mom and my husband, having flown to Canada from Bermuda to share time with my Mother when my Mom shared the sad news of Brent’s passing. It took me a moment to grab hold of what she was saying as I was in complete shock.

There are no words to adequately express how sad this news has made my heart and soul, but it also allowed me to reflect deeply on the kindness, generosity, and sincerity Brent always had for the reverence of life.

Although I did not know Brent well, I knew him as my Sister was his friend (Christy Luftenegger / Cox). They travelled to the west together as teens and Brent was often around our home at various milestone moments for my sister. Every single time without fail, Brent would take a moment to acknowledge my presence with a respect and kindness that was deeply appreciated and so warm with love. For me, this says a great deal about the man he was. A man who understood the value of each heart and soul with great clarity.

As evidenced by the beautiful letters here, I am in awe of Brent’s beauty and the way he lived his life with so much care for each and I respect him even more getting to know his legacy through the hearts and souls of each who have taken time to share their gratefulness for Brent being in their lives. His warmth and caring will live on in the kindness and divine light of pure love he radiated while embodied on earth and I know his afterlife with God will be magnificent with amazing grace as he returns to his divine home with the Lord and the celebration will be magnificent.

With all the love in my heart, soul, and spirit, may God bless everyone who knew Brent and help those mourning this great loss… and help each turn their sadness to Joy in celebrating the legacy of God’s pure love and kindness Brent shon with… may God bless Brent’s family to heal through this very difficult time, and may the Angels and ArchAngels of God’s Divine Love surround each soul who loved Brent, guiding each soul through this sad time, refreshing and renewing each soul’s original light with the beauty and miracle of life on earth as in heaven…as heaven beams to life.

I am so terribly saddened to hear of Brents passing. Sending love, strength and prayers to his dear family and friends near and far.

I travelled with Brent out West to Banff Alberta along with our other friend Jess back in 1994. We packed up his little car in Pam and Larry’s driveway and the three of us took to the open road. Jess reminded me the other day that he hated us driving fast on that trip so when he was asleep, you guessed it, Pedal to the Medal!!!!
The freedom and adventures that followed on that road trip are some of the best memories of my youth,. Although I lost touch with Brent over the years, I look back on those times and feel truly blessed to have shared them with such a fun, loving, caring and all around great guy.
Brent changed the course of my life on that invitation out West….he introduced me to the wonderful world of travel and adventure and somehow I found myself making a wonderful life for myself here in Australia. I truly believe I have him to thank for that. RIP my friend. You are so sadly missed but so fondly remembered. Christy xxx

I’m not surprised by many of the messages here that include a time when Brent demonstrated his ever-present care and kindness. Almost ten years ago, while at an educational conference with Brent, I received news of a health issue involving my son and was overcome. Brent took charge of me and my situation as he knew that I needed his strength and direction. He arranged for someone to drive me home while he followed behind driving my car. I have never forgotten how he, without any thought of his own needs, immediately came to my aid.

Brent was a giant of a human being. For Christine and family, Pam, Jessica/ Josh and family, we find it so difficult to come to terms that such a beautiful person is gone from this earth. My family loved him. I saw so much of the positive of Larry in Brent, now they are both gone..

He resigned from his term early to support his family through his father’s illness. Brent was a kind, caring and compassionate man and family meant everything to him. Brent and I sat on the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for many years. During that time, I got to know and respect his will to have every child included in school. He was a strong advocate of those who could not speak up for themselves. A true warrior!

Brent showed such compassion for our precious grandson, who passed away in 2017 at age 5. Will who was a Kindergarten student at Holy Name in St. Marys. For the love he showed Will and our son, daughter-in-law and their other children will be forever remembered. Will, I am sure will greet Brent with open arms.

To Brent’s wife, kids , mother and extended family my heart aches for you. Please know that we pray for your healing.

i miss you dad, i know i’m kind of late but i came back and looked at these again and i’m in tears. i miss you so much and i always think about you above everything else, i have such a cool dad. you affected so many people greatly in a good way and you always tried to protect me and be there for me. i remember you tucking me into bed the night before you were gonna leave to the hospital for awhile and i remember you saying “we’re gonna be okay and if i’m not your gonna be okay” he always put me above himself. i remember him one time when i came to see him at the hospital saying “if anything goes wrong you need to know i love you abby. and i’m not saying i’m gonna die that’s totally not what i’m saying , i just know your gonna be strong qnd healthy and happy in the end” and one time way before he got sick he told me when we were sitting on the porch in florida “abby i don’t want you thinking about the future, i don’t want you thinking about the past, i want you to think about right now, me and you sitting on this porch, live your life cherish all your moments”. he was an angel. it’s like he was a gift from God to me. a supporting system through my tough times. he was my everything. the one who understood and he still does. i love you and you mean so much. people know what a great person you are daddy and they always will. i’m so lucky to be named abigail langan. forever in my heart. ????
