I was heartbroken to hear of your mom&&single&&s passing. Joyce was so special to me and I cannot look back upon my growing up in Winthrop without thinking of her. Whether it was at the ballpark, the arena, or just stopping in to say “hi”, Joyce was always so warm and welcoming. When she hugged you, you felt it all the way to your toes. He laugh was infectious and her sense of humour was immeasurable. Sending my love to you all at this terribly hard time. I am very sorry to hear of Joyce&&single&&s passing. To say she had a profound effect on my life would be an understatement. For it was her that persuaded me to become a Hockey Official and the rest as they say is History. Without her guidance, patience, understanding and nurturing during my formative years I never would have made it to where I did. I was always grateful for that. Her countless hours of volunteering in not only Seaforth but the WOAA were greatly appreciated. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in your time of mourning.

I am so sad to hear this news and I offer sincere sympathy to all Joyce&&single&&s family and many friends. Joyce was the face of our minor hockey, it seems forever. A trip to the arena meant you would have a visit with Joyce. On a whim she encouraged me to take the referee&&single&&s test to see how well I knew the rules. This ended up in a couple of years of reffing with my brothers Cam and Ian – just up to Bantam but what an experience. She was positive, encouraging, always smiling, and a “mom” to all those young hockey players and referees. Our community is better off because of Joyce.

My sympathy is extended to Joyce&&single&&s family at the loss of this special one of a kind person. Her unwavering dedication to the local sports scene in the Winthrop/ Seaforth area as well as her long serving role in the WOAA will be tough to match by any one individual. I recall one night as a young teenager refereeing in Mitchell when Joyce stopped me on my way off the ice at the end of the game and explained she was short a ref in Seaforth. “Keep your stuff on, your coming with me!” You could never say no to her! She drove me there and back. What a lady!

There was always a story to tell of her beautiful grandchildren or her beloved dog -Jackson.Our chats always ended in a hug and kiss on the cheek. So sorry to learn of Joyce&&single&&s passing, I will always remember the fun she made for us Mothers at all the hockey tournaments when our boys were little. She was soooo dedicated!!Someone we hate to loose!!!
