Hodgins, Marvyn

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Marvyn Loft Hodgins, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, just shy of his 91st birthday, peacefully in his own home with his family by his side. Marvyn was born December 13, 1933. Beloved husband of the late Donna Kathryn (Graham) Hodgins (2023), they were married for 67 years. Marvyns’s pride and joy were his children, Brian & Kelly Hodgins, Bonnie & Steve Kraus, and Brad Hodgins & Lori Turner. Proud grandpa of Lee & Shelley Hodgins, Justin & Stephanie Hodgins, Jessica & Kerlin Castillo, Kyle Kraus & Alaina Eldridge, Jason & Sydney Hodgins, Ashley & Tim Dickey, and Great Grandpa (GPAPA) of Brayden & Curtis Hodgins. Blake, Ava, Emi, & Elsie Hodgins. Mila & Kira Castillo. Annie Hodgins. Jeremy, Hailey & Spencer Dickey. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Marie & the late Don (2015) Medd, late John (2023) & Sylvia Graham, Lynn & the late Allan (2020) Ryan. Marvyn is survived by many cousins, nieces & nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends, neighbours and extended family.

Marvyn was predeceased by his parents Reta (Loft) & Clarence Hodgins, his in laws Donald and Jessie (Campbell) Graham, son Bruce Hodgins (1975), daughter-in-law Jennifer (Sleegers) Hodgins (2012) and grandson Greg Turner (2018).

Marvyn loved and embraced life; he grew up in London township. Family has always been important to Marvyn, and he held his family close to his heart.

Marvyn always was fixing or tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. He had many jobs before he settled in working at Labatt in London, where he worked as a millwright for 35 years. Donna and Marvyn worked together on the farm for many years.  They enjoyed camping, travelling all over Canada and US, close to all our hearts was camping at Bass Lake. Donna and Marvyn love to tour in their 1936 Chev Cabriolet, with this car they toured across Canada in the “Coast to Coast in 2000.” Both were known to stop in and grab the grandkids and great grandkids in the 36 Chev, to go for ice cream treats. All the children, grandkids and great grandkids enjoyed Grandpas love of Chocolate. Together they visited many dance halls during their travels near and far. Marvyn followed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s hockey (all over Ontario for many, many years), baseball, soccer and figure skating events. Marvyn and Donna travelled frequently with their Old Car Groups TRI-Lakes Region HASC, VCCA Club, Heritage 35, Tri County Heritage Club, where they met many lifelong friends.

Our Family wishes with heart felt thanks to those that have helped keep dad comfortable and at home over the last few years. Special thanks to Doctor Dan for his support, house calls and follow up. And to all the care givers, too many to name we appreciate you all, we could not have done this with out your help.

As per Marvyn’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral.

Donations can be made in his honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Jessica’s House, Exeter or charity of your choice.

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Marvyn, who I always referred to as Mr. Hodgins. He was a very kind and compassionate man and I always enjoyed my time at his home being with Brian and Brad. We had so much fun and your family was always very nice to me when I worked with Brian at Lewis Farms. He was the first person I ever met who subscribed to Consumer Reports magazine which is now a service I use in my work. I’m sure he enjoyed keeping his antique Chev running smoothly – it looks like a wonderful car. I wish your family all the best at this difficult time. Pat Foran

Condolence from Ron & Kay Hodgins and Family on December 8th, 2024 12:13 PM

Condolences to the family of my first cousin Marvyn. Our fathers shared farming equipment over the years and although I was younger I spent a lot of time with Marvyn helping our parents with the harvest. I also spent time with Marvyn alone as he always had some mechanical project to work on, farming equipment and later old cars. I especially remember a 1918 Chevrolet 490 Touring car, which I occasionally got to drive and go with him when he showed it at various events and parades.

Marvyn never changed, in later years when I would visit him he would be out working in his shop with some grandchildren, passing on the same skills I learned from him.

Fond memories, he’ll be missed.
