We were saddened to hear of your Dad’s passing. I have childhood memories of Gord, which usually included a funny story or two and that wicked grin of his. My Dad (Stewart McIntosh) has been a friend of Gord’s since they were both very young men. Gord was the best man at my parents wedding in 1953. Condolence from Linda Harris on March 7th, 2013 2:16 PM

I wanted to share a few memories of Gord. Though I didn’t know him as well as I would have liked to, I lived in the apartment next door to his at 270 Queen Street, St. Marys for two years. My best moments conversing with him were in the early hours of the late spring to fall mornings on our respective patios. Gord liked to rise early and sit on his porch, especially during the summer months when it was comfortable before the sun rose high and it was too hot to sit outside. He would always greet me cheerfully, and then we would each sit in silence listening to the birds singing in the trees nearby. Often, if he was on his porch in the afternoon and I was home, he would come to my parking lot door, knock and pass on a joke or two before waltzing back to his apartment. The jokes were never that risque, and he got a kick out of telling them.

Gord would watch over things behind the building and in the parking lot. I would get a telephone call around 6 a.m. once in awhile from Gord informing me that it was raining and I had left a car window open! I learned to listen to the weather forecast and be sure all windows were closed if rain was expected. It was a comfort, in a sense, that Gord was there keeping watch.

When Don, up on the third floor above, came down with his dog, Blondie, Gord always made sure that there was a raw weiner stuck in the steel traffic barricade in front of his apartment for her to find and eat.. Even today, Blondie still goes to see if there is a weiner stuck there. She still remembers as do all of us here.

I shall miss his courtesy, his simple, honest outlook on life, and his country humour. I know that he is not struggling or in pain, anymore, but I do miss him as I know his family and friends do.

My thoughts and prayers to you all during this time of adjusting to a life without him.

Warmest regards.

Linda Harris
