To the entire family of Rod,, I am so sorry to read about Rod’s passing. He may not have had a recent memory of his life during these last few years, and unfortunately has missed making new memories with you all. But at least you have all had chance to spend time with him, and have memories of those times to keep in your hearts. I am so sorry for your loss,,, Rod was always such a happy person, with that huge smile and infectious laugh. My thoughts are with you all…

Condolence from Diane Leibold on September 12th, 2016 10:04 PM

I regularly visit my mother in the Villa and I kept seeing Rod’s name as I went down the hall and thought of visiting him but didn’t. Now I can see what was drawing me-it is that I had met Roxanne years ago in Kettle Point with Sheila.
Praying for your comfort and peace at this time.

Dear Gloria and family: I was sorry to hear about Rod’s passing and I wish you strength and fond memories as you bid farewell to your husband and loved one. I know I speak for many others too when I recall it was so nice to see you and Rod at the 2005 Gander Flight School reunion. The dance that he promised me was forthcoming and I’ll always remember him with fondness for that. I still have the painting that you both donated to the silent auction which I won. It hangs on the bedroom wall. This depiction in this painting of a group of children and their dog checking out the shores of a pond is reminiscent of a typical Gander area spot. Glad that you will be returning him to “The Rock” as his final resting place. May the love you shared for Rod always reside in your hearts.

Condolence from Eric and Shirley Smith on September 14th, 2016 5:29 PM

Gloria: Shirley and I were sad to hear of Rod’s passing. We both have so many memories of Rod. At school the teacher could never get mad with Rod because he always flashed his innocent smile. In high school, Rod and I would return to his home late in the evening after his parents had retired for the night. His Mother would have prepared a snack for Rod and me. I still remember the date squares.

In September 1958 Rod and I had gone to a dance at Glenwood to check out the two new teachers. Rod immediately started dancing with the first teacher. The second teacher was dancing with some guy, so I went back to the car for a nap. Later Rod came out and said Smitty you have to come in and dance with the second teacher. So because of Rod, I met my wife, Shirley.

Our visits later with Rod, Gloria and Jay were always enjoyable.

Rod, you will be missed.

Eric and Shirley
