HERN: Ronald “Ron” Fredrick of Exeter

Passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of the late Janet (Blair) Hern and late Patricia (Mohan) Hern. Cherished father of Kelly and Jamie Herbst, Jason Hern and Louise Sullivan, Adam and Kim Hern, and Janelle and Jeff Reid, and step-father of Jonathan Chapman. Adored grandfather of Mackenzie, Aislinn; Claire; Reese, Hanna, Casey, Tyson; Jack, and Finn. Fondly remembered by the Hern, Blair, and Macmillan families.

Condolence from Brenda and Don Jones on February 24th, 2024 5:47 AM

Kelly, Jason, Adam, Janelle and families
Sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad, Grandpa and a wonderful man.
I have know Ron since I was 10, like a big brother. He would pick me up from school by snowmobile on snowy days and build whatever I thought I needed for school projects.
Ron was a quiet man of many talents. He had a community reputation of being able to build anything with wood.
Place a string instrument in Ron’s hands and he could play. No sheet music required.
In later years whenever we saw Ron he always spoke of his children and grandchildren. He was so proud of all of you.
We will miss him but never forget.
Love
Brenda and Don

We knew Ron first through Pat and her grand friendship with Janet and then as our brother-in-law. We’ve had several wonderful trips together through Spain and the Dominican Republic. Three photo albums and so many wonderful times including adventures in Manitoba and in the Ottawa Valley and Prince Edward County. We knew first hand his talent as a carpenter and his ability to tackle design complications or previous construction issues. We never knew such a generous individual giving of his time and skills. He loved to talk and we would sit and play cards or triominos or reminiscing. Through the COVID times we all stopped travelling but kept in touch with FaceTime. Ron will be sadly missed.

Please accept our deepest sympathy at your loss of a good father, grandfather and brother=in-law.. Ron was a hard worker and Ray always enjoyed the years he worked with him. He learned a lot from an expert with wood. Although we have not seen a lot of Ron over the last many years, whenever we did meet up with him he always gave us a rundown of his 4 children and then his grandchildren. I am so sorry we were unable to be at the funeral to speak with each one of you. Know that we are thinking of each one of you and praying you find comfort in knowing Ron lived a good life and left an wonderful legacy. God Bless
