HERN: Adam of Exeter

Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On November 23, 2025 @ 9:30 AM In Exeter,Obituary | 195 Comments

HERN: Adam of Exeter

Suddenly, after a courageous short battle with cancer, Adam passed away at the South Huron Hospital on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the age of 47. Cherished and devoted husband of Kim (Keller) Hern for 15 years. Proud father and dedicated number one fan of Reese, Hanna, Casey, and Tyson. Loving brother and brother-in-law of Kelly and Jamie Herbst, Jason Hern and Louise Sullivan, Janelle and Jeff Reid, Jeff and Keltie Keller, Mark Keller, and Chris and Michelle Keller. Adored uncle of Mackenzie, Aislinn, Claire, Jack, Finn, Paige, Aveleigh (Brad), Neilla, Emma, Maddox, Myles, and Max. Dear son-in-law to George and Elaine (Denomme) Keller. Predeceased by his parents Janet (Blair) (1992) and Ronald Hern (2024), and his step-mother Patricia (Mohan) Hern (2013).

Adam was a one-of-a-kind guy, someone whose life was guided by principles that spoke louder than words. Get him talking, and you’d quickly see the depth of his intelligence; pay attention and spend a little time, and you’d be rewarded with his incredible sense of humour. He understood what truly mattered in life. As a dedicated hockey coach, he shaped the lives of all four of his children and countless others in the community. He loved his work at Fanshawe and the colleagues who became like family. He was a true jack of all trades and was always ready and willing to roll up his sleeves and lend a helping hand. He was very talented, there wasn’t much he couldn’t do, and always looked forward to a challenge. Above all, he was gentle, caring, and kind. Traits that he was proud to inherit from his parents.

Visitation will be held at the Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, EXETER, on Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A memorial service celebrating Adam’s life will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, November 27th at 11 AM immediately followed by a reception. Cremation with interment in Exeter Cemetery.

An education fund has been set up for the Hern children. Donations are much appreciated. Cheques can be made payable to: Assante Capital Management or email [email protected] for online donations.

Condolence from Christine Higgins on November 25th, 2025 9:36 AM

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I had the pleasure of working directly with Adam since he started at Fanshawe, and I’ve always considered him as part of my little work family. He was a joy to be around, funny, smart, VERY creative- I saw him build so many things for the Ag shop. Man was a genius with a welder and very much like my self a ‘perfectionist’ when it came to creating things, no matter what it was.
Our little group went on a fishing day in 2022, and it was a memory that will stick with me. My mind goes back to a photo I snapped of Adam when he went to the bow of the boat to snag a smoke, and I called his name and he looked back for the pic. He was like the Quinn of the lake, up at the bow, just enjoying the view.
Smooth sailing, Adam. I will miss you.

Condolence from Carl Mendonca on November 26th, 2025 6:09 PM

Kim and family, On behalf of our Fanshawe school family, our sincere condolences on the loss of a colleague, friend, teacher, mentor, and, in many ways, a member of our extended family, Adam Hern.
Adam was a man of few words, but his quiet presence carried immense impact. He was innovative and creative—designing and building practical solutions in our labs and classrooms, often transforming simple ideas into state-of-the-art equipment.
Adam had an exceptional talent, dedication, teamwork, and unwavering “can-do” attitude. He offered encouragement, shared thoughtful advice, and consistently followed through—qualities that inspired everyone around him. Adam’s passing is a profound loss for our school, our college, our students, employer partners, and for me personally.
Every bench, classroom, toolbox, training aids, labs, courses he thoughtfully put together and taught have his legacy that we will remind us of his creativity, contagious laughter and smile!! Rest in peace, Adam
