HEIGHWAY: Beryl A.K. (Nixon) of Ilderton

Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On November 23, 2021 @ 1:27 PM In Lucan,Obituary | 84 Comments

HEIGHWAY: Beryl A.K. (Nixon) of Ilderton

Unexpectedly but peacefully at her home on Monday, November 22, 2021 of Ilderton, at the age of 83. Beloved wife, just shy of 40 years, of the late Doug Heighway (2002). Cherished mom of Jim Heighway, Joanne and Jim Kelly, and Dave Heighway and Jules Armstrong. Proud grandma of Kaelen, Spenser, and Claire. Dear sister and sister-in-law of her twin Bruce Nixon and Barb Tyler, Doris Mills, Rhoda and Percy Bramhill, Helen Wyatt, Ralph and Ruth Nixon, and Chris Wilson. Dear aunty Beryl to all of her nieces and nephews. Beryl will be fondly remembered by her many close friends, neighbours, and four legged companions. Predeceased by her parents Burton and Violet (Kew) Nixon, her sisters, Dorothy Hern, and Marion Thomson, brothers, Garfield Nixon, and Robert Nixon, brothers-in-law, Gerald Hern, Hube Mills, Stan Burnett, and Stan Wyatt, sister-in-law Marie Wilson and Marie’s son Kenneth Wilson, and Janey Nixon.

There will certainly be a void in the community of Ilderton without Beryl. Many knew her and her car buzzing around Route 1 Ilderton while on her mail route for over 30 years, smiling and waving to everyone who passed her by. She was always volunteering her time to many organizations in the community; Girl Guides, the flower committee for the Ilderton Fair, the Ilderton Legion, Womens Institute, Ilderton United Church, just to name a few. She loved to attend the Ailsa Craig Day Program, making new friends everywhere she went. Beryl was the life of the party, and loved to take the party on the road with her dear friend of 80 years Mary, taking trips to various parts of the country or North America, without much of an itinerary. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed a cup of coffee from her mug that said “gardening forever, housework whenever”, a phrase Beryl truly lived by. She would always take time to have a visit and a coffee on her front porch whenever someone stopped by

I know how significant this loss is for all of you. She had a remarkable impact on those who were lucky enough to know her, including myself. Sending you my sincere condolences.
