HAYES: Christopher Hugh of Granton

5 days from his 61st birthday, peacefully at his home in Granton, with family at his side Christopher lost his brief battle with cancer.  He will be dearly missed by his wife of 34 years Pamela and their children Colin (Marcy Sabot), Kurtis (Kirstie Hazelwood), and Kalie;  his Mother Geraldine; his brothers Kevin (Jean) and Brad (late Christine); Aunt Sandra Haines (late Uncle Jack); cousin Barbara; his many Brothers and Sisters In-law, and all of his nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Wilfred Hugh (Hughey) Hayes who as a member himself pointed Chris towards the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of which Chris was a member for 40 years. Chris enjoyed his trade, was proud of his work, and kept in touch with many of his fellow tradesmen.. Chris was a member of the Granton Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years.  An avid hunter as a member of the Out of the Blue Hunt Camp and a life long snowmobiler.   Chris made lasting friendships, and will be remembered by many who enjoyed in his passions with him.  The family would like to thank members of all of these organizations, and all of those who have sent meals, shared kind words, and visited in Chris’ final weeks.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Sunday from 1-4 PM. Each person must RSVP for the visitation and/or memorial service, please click “Register Now” below to register.  A memorial service will be held at the Lucan Community Memorial Centre, 263 Main Street, Lucan (Please enter through the Lions Active Living Centre entrance (most southern door)) on Monday, March 7th at 11:00 AM. Chris was a man of few words. He was a true friend who was ALWAYS there for our family. From rescuing the boys from a safe across the street, to selling safes, to building our deck. He was there for us, no matter what! He introduced Fletch to his favourite place…the Hunt Camp. Trips to the camp, snowmobile trips and Christmas parties at the Fire Hall will never be same again. Our hearts are broken from the loss of our dear friend, “Uncle” Pester.

Condolence from Dawn Hepburn on March 3rd, 2022 9:01 AM

Many years ago I had the privilege to work with Chris at Black & McDonald. Although I was only there briefly he made an impression on me. I would go on to run into him at the arena a few times when my son played lacrosse. That same son went on to become an electrician with the IBEW and enjoyed working along side Chris. When my younger son who is a new apprentice with the IBEW came home from work at the Maple Leaf plant telling me that a foreman had passed. When he went on to say it was Chris, my heart was heavy for his loss. My thoughts are with his family at this time. I am so sorry for your loss.

Sharon and I viewed the live streamed family service to say good-bye to Chris. It was a beautiful service, that we hated to miss, but we don’t drive that far any more. Colon and Kalie gave us a wonderful views of their life with Dad and how they loved him dearly. We were very impressed with the words of you minister. Over the years we were always thrilled with the number of Family- Get-Togethers that Chris and Pam and the children have attended, always with a just washed pickup.
