HATCHER: Herbert “George” of Clinton

Peacefully at Alexandra Marine & General Hospital, Goderich on May 26, 2023 of Clinton at the age of 93. Beloved husband of Rita Hatcher (Drager) for 70 years. Cherished father of Gail Jenkinson (Rick), Gary Hatcher (Debbie), Brenda Dawson, and granddaughters whom he adopted as daughters Jennifer Flynn and Nicole Miller (Joe). Proud Grandpa of Rick, Brian, Steven, Jason, Sabrina, Aimee, Gregory, Geoffrey, Extra Special Papa of Tyler, Kaelin, Kai and Cameron, and 12 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Laura Hoggart (Gordon). Missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by parents Laura (Crewe) and William Hatcher, daughter Sonia Hatcher, siblings Bill Hatcher (Armeral), Lillian Dicks (Richard), Phyllis Pearcey (Ed), Donald Hatcher (Patricia), and Olive Hatcher.

George was a very proud Newfoundlander and was a welder for many years; he was always willing to help anyone who needed another set of hands when working any project. He served his country with tremendous pride while serving in the military for nearly 10 years. He also was proud to have been a part of NASA’s Apollo program doing welding on space shuttles. George was the patriarch of his family whom he loved and cared for until his last day. He touched the lives of many over the years. His energy, jokes and lust for life will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.

In keeping with George’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at Baird’s Cemetery, Varna. Donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Condolence from Stephanie Osborne on June 1st, 2023 7:15 PM

My great Uncle George, was the kind of lad you could sit with over a drink (non alcoholic) and leave with a belly ache from laughing at all of his jokes, stories or sayings. I always had a soft spot in my heart for him and am blessed that the very last time I was able to go over to Canada (not sure if I will ever be able to go back physically anymore) he came over to visit with mum and I and catch up with the family. He was a Newfie through and through and that is what we loved about him the most. R.I. P. Uncle George…
Big hugs and much love, to my Great Aunt Rita and his family. You will be truly missed Uncle George💔😢 Love Stephanie and Penny

I cannot tell you how much my dad Bruce will miss George! He entertained my dad with his many stories and kept my dad in line ! George would check on my dad daily when he was at his apartment.
Kelli and I are so grateful for George’s friendship with my dad and all the phone calls he made to check up on dad when he was at the hospital and at his new home. Our thoughts are with you all.
