Posted By On April 5, 2024 @ 12:00 AM In Dashwood,Exeter,Obituary | 51 Comments

GUENTHER: Peacefully, at University Hospital, London, on Friday, April 5, 2024, Eugene Ross “Gunner” Guenther of (Sarepta) Dashwood after a month of unexpected viral encephalitis, age 77. Dear husband of 50 years to A. Jean (Stone) Guenther. Loving father of Lori and Wayne Manson and Steven and Sarah (Datema) Guenther. Adored “Papa” to Alexa and Rya Guenther and leaves behind his grand puppies Wilo (2024) and Oakleigh. Born to parents Ross (2004) and Pauline (Eagleson) Guenther (2015). Dear brother and brother-in-law to Joan and the late Jim Scott (2012), Les Stone and Patricia (Stone) Bowers. Special uncle to Mike and Kim Scott, Rob and Holly Scott, Paul Scott (1986), Jason and Tina Scott and their families, along with nieces, nephews and their families in Hamilton. Eugene was a licensed welder for many years during his working career. Fishing was his favorite sport and gave him such great pleasure along with his wife, children, grand-daughters and best friends. He loved camping at Rondeau Bay for the last 13 years where fishing off of his boat was the best time ever. He was a very good “MR FIXIT” and spent many hours tinkering in his shop along with sharpening chain saw blades for many people. Gardening was also a favorite hobby with his harvest being consumed all winter long for many years. To honour his wishes cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held. A celebration of life may take place in the future. T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood entrusted with arrangements.

To Eugene’s family
Sorry to read of your huge loss. Wishing you God’s peace, strength and comfort during this difficult time.
I fish more than most, which is what connected Steve Gunther and myself. When Steve was coming I knew we were going to catch fish. He brings a positive energy that really can’t be paralleled, or so I thought. Which is how I was introduced to Eugene, and Jean. By happenstance, in a trailer park 2.5 hours away from Exeter, we were fortunate enough to have Eugene and Jean buy a trailer literally 2 doors down from us. Between the campfires, and eggs in a ziplick we got to know them very well…like Sunday Funday well…lol sorry Jean. I don’t remember every fishing trip I go on, literally hundreds a year. I will never forget the 2 back to back days of fishing with Eugene….I got to see where Steve gets his positive energy from…both mom and Dad. At the end of the second day…which if I close my eyes, it is a clear as seeing on TV, the look on Eugene’s face when the lead core line rod hook up yet another fish. We argued who was going to get it….No you get it, he the same. We caught over 70 fish that day! To this day a favorite fishing memory. Feel very fortunate to have been able to spend that time with him.
