GROOT: John Johannes

Thankful for what he has been to us after a long and healthy life followed by a short illness, we regret to announce the peaceful passing at home of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather John Groot in his 92nd year on September 11, 2011. In February of 1951 John and his new bride, Bridget Appelman, emigrated to Strathroy, Ontario. In March of 1958 they moved to their new farm in Zurich, On and never looked back. John was a dedicated farmer and family man who will be greatly missed by his entire family. He is survived by his wife Bridget, four daughters and seven sons of which he was very proud: John and Elze of RR#3 Zurich, Peter and Elaine of Hensall, Marianne and Glen Warwick of Seaforth, David and Shari of Chatham, Margaret and Paul Munn of RR#1 Hensall, Patrick and Darlene of RR#1 Zurich, Elizabeth and Paul Weber of RR#1 Mildmay, Christopher and Rhonda of Barrie, Jeannie and Robin Timmerman of Calgary, Joey and Patty of RR#1 Zurich and Jerry and Julie of RR#1 Zurich. John is survived by 34 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and predeceased by one grandson, Jonathan, 3 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by one brother and his wife in The Netherlands.

John is resting in J.M. McBeath Funeral Home, 49 Goshen Street N. Zurich, Ontario. Visitation is on Tuesday, September 13 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Boniface R.C. Church, Zurich, On with Father Graham Keep celebrant. Afterwards John will be laid to rest in St. Boniface cemetery followed by a reception and light luncheon at the Zurich arena. Parish Prayers will be said at 8:45 p.m. in the funeral home.

If so desired, donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Health Care.
