Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On May 27, 2025 @ 9:30 AM In Obituary,Seaforth | 39 Comments

Passed away peacefully in Brussels on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Born on November 27, 1925, Janie was in her 100th year.
Beloved wife of the late Frank Golding (2018) for over 60 years. Much loved mother of Elizabeth Scott, and the late Mark Golding (2013). Treasured Grandma of Denny (Ashleigh), Tory (Jeff), Marissa (Zack), and Ethan (Desiree). Loving GG of Mary Jane; Evie, Wes, Rhett; Lily, Violet; and Wrenley. Janie will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Helen and Tom Wilbee, and her parents Peter & Mae (Sinclair) Moffat. Also predeceased by her in-laws; Evelyn and Paddy Perrett, Arthur & Viola Golding, Dorothy & Jim Mark, Marjory & Ross Montgomery.
Janie Golding was born on “the Second of Stanley”, on the Sinclair family’s home farm.
Athletic from an early age, and always a bit of a tomboy, she loved visiting her relatives on family farms as she grew up, with lots of nooks and crannies to explore and animals to ride and crops to pick.
Settling in Seaforth just in time to start school, the family made their home there for many years. Always bright, she accelerated through school, and with her talent for numbers and a gift for rapid calculation, bookkeeping and bank work was a natural career fit.
After she and Frank married, they lived on several air force bases. The family grew to 4, and they eventually settled back in their hometown of Seaforth as Frank was nearing retirement. Janie returned to her job at the “POSO” bank and was active in many charitable groups in the community.
Janie was a charter member of the very first junior choir at Northside United Church in Seaforth, and continued to be a choir member at Northside until she retired from senior choir in her 80’s. She loved singing, and that gift has found its way to some of her grandchildren.
She enjoyed her grandchildren immensely and loved spending time with them, whether in Florida or at home. Most enjoyable were sleepovers. Janie was an excellent cook and was especially adept at pies. She and Frank canned and preserved almost everything grown in their garden.
Visits from the grandchildren, and then the great grandchildren were the highlight in her days. She loved to see them as often as they could come. She was never happier than when she was listening to their stories or sharing a cuddle on her lap.
Visitation will be held at Northside United Church, 54 Goderich Street West, Seaforth on Friday, May 30th from 10:30 – 11:30 AM, where Janie’s Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM. Cremation with interment Maitlandbank Cemetery, Seaforth. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of choice would be appreciated.

It’s tough to hear that we have lost another member of the Golding-Wilbee-Tilley-Bell cohort. I have great memories and photos of their frequent get togethers. How wonderful it is that they had such a long friendship. We don’t see that often these days. I mourn the loss of this wonderful woman with you.

Dear Liz and family,
My sincere condolences on the loss of your wonderful mom, who was such an important part of the life of my late mother, Elizabeth Lois Moffat Streifler. As first cousins, they were very close, and made a formidable trio with dear Helen (Wilbee). I have fond memories of seeing the three of them together, laughing and reminiscing about childhood adventures.
Sending love from Los Angeles,
