GINGERICH: Mary Elaine (Gerber) of Kitchener-Waterloo, formerly of Zurich

September 21, 1940 – September 19, 2022

Passed away peacefully at Lisaard House, Cambridge, ON on Monday, September 19, 2022, just shy of her 82nd birthday. Beloved wife of the late Calvin Gingerich (2009) for over 45 years. Cherished mother of Anita and the late Duane (2015) Boles of Waterloo, and the late Bonnie Gingerich (1989). Proud grandma of Tyler Boles and Nichole Foster, and Eden Boles. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Marlene Steckly, Frieda Faulhafer, Lloyd and Connie Gerber, Wayne and Joyce Gerber, Stephen and Mary Ellen Gingerich, Laurene Zehr, and Verna Gingerich, and family friend Bill Wickenheiser. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Predeceased by her parents Solomon and Edna (Yantzi) Gerber, sister Nancy Gerber, brothers-in-law Norman Steckly, Clare “Toby” Faulhafer, Edgar Gingerich, and Harold Zehr, sisters-in-law Mildred Gingerich and Viola Ramer and her husband Sidney.

Mary was an active member of the Zurich Mennonite Church for over 55 years. She served as a Deacon at the church, going on home visits, providing her warmth and care to anyone in need. She was very talented with quilting and embroidery and enjoyed creating these keepsakes for her family and friends. Mary worked for many years at the Tasty-Nu Bakery in Zurich, ensuring the community was stocked with fresh bread and delicious treats. Together, she and Calvin had a big and beautiful garden, both floral and vegetable. They had they best strawberry patch around, typically described as “unbelievable”. Above all, her favourite thing to do was to spend time with her friends, her church community and of course, her family.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 49 Goshen Street North, ZURICH on Friday September 30th from 6 – 8 PM. Registration is required and appreciated. Please click “Register Now” below to register.
