FROATS: Mabel (Robertson) of Lucan

Peacefully at Jessica’s House, Exeter on Friday, February 25, 2022 of Lucan at the age of 100. Beloved wife of the late William Froats (2011). Dear grandmother of Tabatha Fronchak (Trevor), Neil Froats (Nancy) and Jamie Froats (Raina); David Schembri (Amy) and Natalie Schembri (Andrew); and Ted Melanson (Bharbara) and Dan Melanson (Brandee) and great-grandmother of 13. Dear sister-in-law of Everett Froats. Predeceased by her parents Isaac and Ethel (Knott) Robertson, and her aunt Maude Robertson.

Mabel started her career as a Bell Telephone operator in Chatham. Throughout her many years, Mabel was a lifelong member of the UCW, a Sunday school teacher, member of the church quilting group and an Explorer girl’s leader. Her enthusiastic sales from Regal always went to support the UCW.

Visitation will be held at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Thursday, March 3 from 4-6 PM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions each person must RSVP for the visitation. Please click “Register Now” below, to register.

Condolence from Margaret Hern on February 26th, 2022 4:25 PM

Dear Family,
It is about two years since I first began some “COVID” chats with Mabel. I had shared some of my personal reflections in the Villages Ministry worship packs and your Mother would call to thank me for sharing. She would always offer a tidbit of information that added to my thoughts or comment on how she was enjoying playing the hymn selections offered. It was my pleasure to get to know her just a little. I hope my letters and the worship packs offered a few hours of study to her ordered day. During our last telephone chat she shared her concern about having to now depend on her family for some assistance. She thought it unfair that she would take time away from your personal lives. I told your Mother her family would be feeling honoured to be part of her care now and she was being given a wonderful gift. I heard a smile in her voice as she replied, ” Well that is something new to consider.” Our simple contacts were a gift to me. I hope to her as well. For almost two years we were old fashioned pen pals. Blessings to all of you.
Sincerely Margaret Hern
