FREIMANIS: Zinaida “Zina”

Freimanis, Zinaida:  With heavy hearts, the family of “Zina” Freimanis of Grand Bend and formerly of Barrie, (born Zinaida Osis, 1919) announce her passing on June 10, 2022 at Jessica’s House Residential Hospice, Exeter, Ontario.  Zina celebrated an amazing 103 years of love, adversity and challenges. She remained forever connected to her precious native country, Latvia, from which she and her young family were forced to flee during the second world war, but forever grateful for her new life in Canada.  Beloved wife of the late Kristaps Viktor Freimanis (1992).  Loving mother of Sandra Coules (Gary, 2000), Astrida Freyman (2003) and Larisa Sherman (Mark). Cherished grandma of Tija, Sam (Kori and Jordan) and Jake (Karyn). Proud GG of her “softies”, Layla and Louie.  Zina was such an inspiration to all who knew her. Her kind and generous spirit lifted us all.  Her great philosophy on how to stay young was to live off the good memories and embrace nature as much as possible. “If we are in tune with Nature, all her music can find a way into the heart.”  Frank Bolles.  At Zina’s request Cremation will take place with a private family graveside service with Interment at York Cemetery, Toronto.  The family would like to thank all the caring staff and volunteers at Jessica’s House, St. Joseph’s Hosp. palliative care team and Sarnia Lambton VON for their compassion, kindness and support.  If desired, memorial donations payable directly to Jessica’s House Hospice, Exeter, Ontario would be welcome.  T. Harry Hoffman and Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood entrusted with arrangements.

Condolence from David Rozitis on June 16th, 2022 9:25 PM

Remembering my dear Krustmāte at this sad time. She was the closest that I had to a mom and a grandma for most of my life. My Krustmāte’s ever-present positive outlook and cheerfulness, despite life’s challenges, will continue to inspire me. She sang “Happy Birthday” to me over the phone each year, even at 103! I will always fondly remember her, and her love, kindness and humour.

Dear Larisa, I am so sorry to hear about your mothers passing. I recall her sweet nature and kindness when living on Chaplin Ave. St Catharines. A long time has passed since then and I have never forgotten you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and this most difficult time. Silvia Rice-Jones ( Schwarz)
