FINKBEINER: Dianne Sheila (Hodge)

Posted By On February 15, 2026 @ 12:00 AM In Dashwood,Exeter,Obituary | 83 Comments

FINKBEINER: Dianne Sheila (Hodge)

Departing far too soon for us (still on her own schedule), Dianne Sheila (Hodge) Finkbeiner of Shipka, in her 72nd year passed peacefully at Jessica’s House in Exeter on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Dianne will be missed tremendously by her son Jeff (Susan Olson) of Shipka, grandchildren; Tyson (Cloey Weiss), Mason and Payton. Predeceased by her husband Bob (2016), their son Kristopher (1995), her parents William Hodge (1969), Eleanor Roeszler (1993), step-father Lloyd Roeszler (1999), parents-in-law Harold Finkbeiner (2004) and Doreen Finkbeiner (2008) and friend Mike Eagleson (2025).

A cherished sister Dianne will be remembered by; Ruth Miller (John), Sharon Miller (Paul Esler), Bill Hodge (Joanne), Bruce Hodge (Deb), Joan Hodge (Doug Kelly) and Karen Hodge (Brenda Roberts). Sister-in-law to Bill Finkbeiner (Nancy), Dave Finkbeiner (Mary), and Joan Finkbeiner. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, greats, an aunt, cousins and many long time dear friends, along with many friends in the community.

After a career of over 43 years at Huron Tractor, Dianne was just as active in her retirement as when she worked! Whether fundraising, catering, hosting Pampered Chef parties, cleaning, or lending a helping hand to anyone she could. Everyone knew Dianne as she marched through town easily reaching 20,000+ steps in her day, or seen pushing a lawn mower, gardening or buzzing through town with the roof down to pop in to say hi to friends and family. Always enroute as the proud grandma taxi she could be seen at numerous arenas and ball fields or at the school picking up and dropping off her grandkids.

Dianne’s friends knew she would be “all-in” for a sunny vacation, a trek to Nashville, or a weekend away! She was always excited to plan a family gathering, a get together at the house, or drop by for a coffee as her door was always open for you! If not in person, you could count on a phone call check-in to see how you were doing, and to fill you in on the latest stories. We know she will be deeply missed by all.

The family would like to give very special thanks to the amazing nurses and psw’s and staff and volunteers of Jessica’s House for their precious care given to Dianne and all her family and guests over these last weeks. Jessica’s house blessed Dianne with love and compassion and tender care letting her pass with peace and dignity in her final days. To Dr. Lam and the team of incredible caregivers we are so very very grateful.

A heartfelt Thank you to so many of you for visiting Dianne and showing the family your love and support during these difficult past weeks. Your kindness, your meals, your treats, your generous gifting of precious time and companionship were a testament of your love and care and a huge support to us in this tragic journey.

Many thanks to the Exeter Hospital Palliative Care team for their great care during her very short stay there.

Thank you to University Hospital; Dr. Vo and the cardiac team, Dr. Debicki and the neurology team, Dr. Bainbridge and the cardiac ICU team who all tried everything they could to bring a better outcome. It was heartbreaking for all.

It was Dianne’s time to leave us, and although we are grieving this painful loss we are also comforted to know she’s reunited with so many loved ones who have left before her. At Dianne’s request, in lieu of a funeral join us for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from 1:00-5:00 p.m., with Words of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. at the Dashwood Community Center, 158 Centre Street, Dashwood, Ontario. Arrangements entrusted to the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood.    Interment Crediton Cemetery at a later date.

Donations may be made in her memory to: Jessica’s House Hospice, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice.

Condolence from Michael Soldan on February 15th, 2026 10:35 AM

Dianne was a valued member of the Exeter Hawks executive for many years. Her incredible talent with figures made her the financial expert for the hawks , the books were neat and tidy and every penny had to be accounted for. She was also the organizer and chief cook for the Hawks annual turkey dinner for several years. I enjoyed working with Dianne and she was sorely missed when she retired from the Hawks organization. To Jeff and all her family I extend my condolences.. Mike Soldan

Our heartfelt sympathy Jeff and family. We will certainly miss seeing her go by on her special green bike to feed the lambs or take care of Lexi, and pushing her wheelbarrow full of trimmings, when 4 wheels would be easier – but that is what made Dianne unique and special to us. She would then stop in for a chat before heading home to start another project! We will certainly miss her along with so many others whose lives she touched
