Haskett Funeral Home, LUCAN (519-227-4211) entrusted with arrangements.

Jane was a nurse during her working career. After graduating from La Salle Secondary High School in Sudbury she trained at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. She worked at Toronto General Hospital where she occasionally worked in the hyperbaric medicine department. She moved to Tillsonburg with her husband and was a surgical nurse in the OR at Tillsonburg General Hospital. Moving to London and later Granton Jane worked at St. Joseph Hospital eventually becoming head nurse in the OR. Leaving active nursing she worked with Robarts Research and later the Cardiac Investigative Unit of Western University London. Her name appears on many published research papers. She retired in 2003. Jane was one of the first female scuba diving instructors in Canada. While working full time at St. Joe’s she completed her Nursing degree and was in the top of her class. She had a competitive spirit and faced challenges with determination.

Jane had many pastimes. In the early years she was busy sewing many of her own clothes. She made her high school gym outfit. She loved to ski (downhill and cross country). She was a major league Toronto Blue Jays baseball fan. She attended the first game in Toronto and kept the ticket. She went to spring training in Dunedin for many years and of course in Toronto with daughter Allison. She was an avid gardener and when the family moved to a 40-acre hobby farm near Granton she followed her passion and planted flowers everywhere.  She loved roses. She taught scuba diving in her spare time and enjoyed many trips to Tobermory and the Caribbean. She taught her friends to swim in the backyard pool. She and her husband had every animal possible on their hobby farm including a donkey named Elvis. She loved dogs – big ones not little ones.

Family and friends were always important to Jane. She and her husband Brad adopted two beautiful girls, Allison and Alicia. Her nieces and nephews were each and all her favourites. She loved her great nieces and nephews and treated them like her grandchildren. Her associations were many – Wild Women, Shout Sisters, Ladies of the Club bible study and of course the bridge ladies and the book club. She attended many bible studies at the Granton Community Church as well as those held amongst friends.

Donations to the Community Bible Church or the Bethesda Medical Clinic in Haiti would be appreciated by the family.

Many happy memories with Jane taking my sis Sandra and I to see the Ice Capades and Peter Pan at Maple Leaf Gardens, Movies such as ‘Bedknobs and Broomsticks’ and ‘Mary Poppins’ and still the only time I’ve been to watch the Toronto Santa Claus parade In person. We were her ‘practice kids’ when she was fresh out of school! I remember secretly help with ‘decorating the car’ at your wedding then ‘giving it away’ on your way to see it…
A fun, loving and giving woman always!
My heartfelt sympathies to you all.

Forever grateful to Jane & Brad for my first cat, Punk! Straight off the farm! Will miss seeing photos of Jane at the Jays’ Spring training – watching the game and listening to it simultaneously on the radio, all suited up with big headphones. And, will most definitely miss her presence, and laugh, at family gatherings at the Finan’s.

You are in our thoughts. Sending big hugs to you both,

Condolence from Ann Jackson and Tom Small on April 20th, 2020 4:16 PM

Dear Brad and family…
We were deeply saddened to see Jane’s obituary in our local paper. Tom didn’t know Jane but he did know you Brad. It has been many years since I treated Jane as her Massage Therapist. We always had wonderful conversations and she was a “go to” for me when looking for medical input. I can attest that she was a “Major League” Blue Jays fan and we laughed over some of her experiences at the games…trying not to get caught on camera while munching on snacks, watching and simultaneously listening on her radio to pick up any extra details. I recall when she slipped and broke her arm while ice skating, very calmly explaining to her daughter the steps needed to assist. She was a strong woman, sharply intelligent with a great sense of humour. Her faith supported her in difficult times. I’m sure she will be missed by many. Sending love and light to you and yours. Sincerely, Ann and Tom.

Condolence from David Henry on April 21st, 2020 5:56 PM

Brad, Allison & Extended Family: So sorry to hear of Jane’s passing. She had an amazing, busy, wonderful life. Never saw her without a smile. She was involved in so many things, I feel my life has barely begun. What a Blue Jays super-fan she was! Is that a coincidence that Brad was a great pitcher in his youth? She will be missed, but what a lot of great memories she left for those fortunate enough to know her. Peace & Love to all.
