It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Engel on March 1st, 2014 at South Huron Hospital, Exeter of Lucan in her 91st yr. Beloved wife of the late Rudy Engel (2006). Loving mother of Rudi Jr. and Maggie Engel of the Lucan area, Johanna Engel and David Clarke of London, Cora Engel Ryan and Pat Ryan of Lucan, and Martine Engel and Rob Mackereth of Thunder Bay. Dearly missed Oma of Jessica and Terry and Jillian; Alexander and Louise; Katerina and Patrick; Rachel and Eden; and great-granddaughter Anneke. Dearly missed sister of Louise and Lo Vincent of California.
Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Lucan on Monday, March 3rd, 2014 from 5:30-6:30 PM where family remembrances will celebrate Joan’s life at 7 PM. Cremation has taken place. Interment of cremated remains St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye at a later date.
In-lieu of flowers, donations to World Vision Canada, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Mrs. Engel was a wonderful neighbour and a kind presence in our lives. She made us feel welcome when we moved to the neighbourhood and it was always a pleasure to be in her company. Our deep condolences on your loss.

My sympathy to all Joan’s family
I have many beautiful family portraits,taken by your Mom and think maybe your Dad in the start .I have two large ones of my boys Faron and Ferlin and one of my daughter Leanne,that she hand painted,they look as good today as the day she took them,signed Engel Studio,one taken in 1965 and 1969.I will always remember her from all our family picture days as a kind,gentle lady.She had a great long life ,but it is still very hard to say goodbye to our parent and grandparent.Thinking of you all at this sad time..

We are sending our deepest sympathy to the Engel Family for your loss. Mrs Engel was a great neighbour and friend. I will miss talking with her over the fence in the summer. Life around here will not be the same without her. We were blessed to have known her and Mr Engel.

I’m sure there are many in Lucan who remember your Mom and family as great photographers. Our wedding was one of many.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. It is hard to say goodbye.
Mrs. Engel was such an inspiration to me and my photography, a profession I pursue to this day. Always finding time to show me around the darkroom and studio and patiently showing me tricks with my latest camera. Each time I visited my roots in Lucan, it was a treat to drop by for a few words. A part of childhood and wonderful memories. My heart goes out to this wonderful family of friends.

It is almost impossible to imagine a world without this strong, gifted woman. Joan was truly an inspiration and won’t be forgotten.

Our deepest condolences to the Engel family. I remember her taking our wedding pictures at the house. When it was time to leave for the church we realized we didn’t have a car for the bridesmaids so they had to pile into your mom’s car. She was a great lady.
