Melva Lynette (Chowen) Ecker

At Riverside Glen, Guelph on Monday, November 5, 2012, formerly of Exeter in her 83rd year. Beloved wife of Donald Ecker of Guelph. Dear mother of Janet Ecker Nelson (Derek) of Ajax, Cathy Helps (Bruce) of Guelph, Doug Ecker (Betty Robinson) of Exeter and Gayle Ecker (Paul Rhodes) of Guelph. Dear grandmother of Donald and Lee-Sah Helps. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Glenn and Janet Chowen of Hamilton and Kathleen Chowen of London. Predeceased by her brother Bruce Chowen.

A small service for family and close friends to celebrate Melva’s life will be held at the Arkell United Church, 600 Arkell Street, Arkell on Tuesday, November 13th at 2 PM with Rev. Willy van Arragon officiating. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment Exeter Cemetery, Exeter.

Donations to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Mrs. Ecker, the Mom of my first childhood friend in Exeter. I was 4 and Janet and her family lived down the street. Melva was a gracious lady then and has been so ever since. My sympathies to Dr. Ecker and his family, you were part of making Exeter what it is today, warm, caring and friendly.

Deepest sympathy to the family. I have many fond memories of working with Melva at Exeter United Church….on the archives, at UCW and on the trustees committee. The signature quilt that she was instumental in making and that hangs on the east side of the sanctuary of EUC is an example of her talents and hard work she did for the church.
