DUGGAN: With deep sadness, we announce the passing of John Martin Duggan, who died at Jessica’s House in Exeter on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the age of 77, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sheffield, England, John embarked on a new chapter when he immigrated to Cambridge, Ontario in 1980. There, he became a beloved figure in the Cambridge youth soccer community, dedicating countless hours as both league staff and coach, including cherished years coaching his own sons. His passion for soccer never wavered, and he remained a devoted Sheffield United supporter throughout his life.
In 2012, John and his beloved wife Mary retired to Grand Bend, Ontario, where he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. After moving to Grand Bend, John and Mary embraced retirement life to its fullest, participating in various activities with fellow retirees, including darts, cards, and pickleball. From his favorite recliner, he delighted in watching birds visit his feeders and squirrels play in their meticulously maintained garden, a place that brought him peace and happiness until his final days.
John leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Rose (Everitt) Duggan; his sons Matthew (Christine) and Sean (Wendy); and his cherished grandchildren Micayla and Kaleah of Austin, Texas, and Aden and Sydney of Kanata, Ontario. He is survived by his sister Carol Palmer of Ottawa, sisters-in-law Sharon Duggan and Judy Everitt of England, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Elsie Duggan, his brothers Kevin and Patrick Duggan, and his brothers-in-law Barry Palmer and Paul Everitt.
In accordance with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public memorial service. Those wishing to honor his memory are invited to raise a glass (preferably Glenfiddich) and remember their fondest moments shared with John.
Arrangements have been entrusted to T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood.
