DUCHARME: Allan James of Seaforth

Allan passed away peacefully at his home in Seaforth on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the age of 64. Loving husband of Chris (Groothuis) Ducharme for over 42 years. Proud dad of Jim Ducharme, Jenny Kramer, Jeff Ducharme, and the late Julie Fielder (2019) (Wayne). Adored grandpa of Curtis, and Alexis Kramer, and Maddox Fielder. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Joe and the late Sheila Hallahan, Murray and Heather Ducharme, Denise and Brad Smith, Jack and Trudy Groothuis, Hank and Mary Groothuis, Garry and Judy Groothuis, Joanne Holland and Ed Reis, Rose and Steve Curtis, and Jim and Rose Groothuis. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and many friends. Predeceased by his parents Jim and Clara (Ryan) Ducharme, and parents-in-law Gerald and Hendrika Groothuis.

Allan was a dedicated hockey fan; and when he wasn’t at the rink watching his grandchildren, he was cheering on the Kitchener Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was always up for a good gravel run, enjoying the countryside. Allan loved farming, tending to the land and always had a freshly cut, pristine lawn. Above all, he cherished every moment spent with his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 87 Goderich Street West, SEAFORTH on Sunday afternoon from 1 – 4 PM.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 22 Victoria Street, SEAFORTH on Tuesday, March 26th at 11 AM. Cremation will follow with a private family interment St. Columban Catholic Cemetery.

Donations to the Seaforth & District Foodbank or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Condolence from Gerald Holland on March 21st, 2024 7:16 PM

Uncle Al was a special man. I can’t remember a single instance around him that wasn’t filled with at least a couple of great laughs, lots of joy, and genuine gratitude for having such a warm and caring, thoughtfully joke-filled person in our lives.

He was never not awesome. The kind of Uncle you take for granted growing up.

He’ll be greatly missed.

Thoughts are with Aunt Chris, Jim, Jen, and Jeff at this time.

Condolence from Murray Ducharme on March 22nd, 2024 12:03 AM

I am going to miss all of those long country drives ending up at Steve Flynn’s for an afternoon of discussion about farm life and family. Those hearty breakfast dates trying out various restaurants and deciding which county to try next. The numerous phone calls in a day because he forgot to mention one more thing. The ribbing I took because of the FORD truck. The companionship and laughs we shared over the years. Allan was my brother but, more importantly he was a true friend. I miss him already and I loved him so much.
Rest in peace dear brother, Love Murray.

Our deepest condolences to each of you. So many memories from our “younger years” as neighbours out on the farm. My favourite is when my pony escaped and Al found her in the middle of the night on their porch and he said he thought it was a bear and couldn’t get in the house fast enough. We laughed about this one for years. Al would always stop for a chit chat when he was out cruising the town on his scooter. I will miss these drive by visits and the laughs that we had.
