DIETRICH ** UPDATED: Dennis Stephen
Posted By On October 25, 2025 @ 12:00 AM In Dashwood,Exeter,Obituary | 123 Comments

DIETRICH: Dennis Stephen Dietrich, age 56, of Dashwood passed away at the farm he had spent his whole life on, surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
He was the loving husband and best friend of Jackie (McLellan) Dietrich for 32 years. He was the proudest father to Kristie & Jordan Hansen; Sara Dietrich & Sam Knechtel; and Emma Dietrich. He was cherished Opa to Josephine Hansen.
Dennis grew up on the Dietrich homestead, carrying on the family farming legacy. Once he took over the operation, he built a beef barn, grew the acreage and raised his family together with Jackie. Success came from his dedication to hard work, commitment to long hours on the job and skills as an amateur engineer, unpaid accountant, self-taught veterinarian, equipment operator, backyard mechanic, and mathematician. Farming was more than what he did, it was who he was.
Dennis’ other passion was people. He loved to spend time with his family, his neighbours and his friends. Days on the snowmobile trails, evenings with his buddies, organizing vintage sled runs, hosting steak nights, sharing a cold one and a laugh with the guys on Bronson Line at the end of a hard day in the field, or rounding up a crew to help a neighbour in need.
And the people he was most passionate about were his family. Dennis loved watching his kids on the ice, on the soccer pitch, or doing whatever activities they got involved in. Younger days were spent camping, teaching them to run their own farm business or relaxing on the beach at the family cottage. Dennis and Jackie spent their favourite moments in a lawn chair under the shade tree on the front lawn of the farm.
Dennis is survived by his sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and his mother-in-law, Karen McLellan. He will be especially missed by his Eugelink family in The Netherlands. He is predeceased by his parents, Stephen & Josephine (Eugelink) Dietrich, sister Pauline Dietrich, brother Anthony Dietrich and father-in-law, Donald McLellan.
Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood with visitation on Wednesday, October 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Mount Carmel on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 11 a.m. Interment at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Cemetery. Celebration of Dennis’ life and legacy to follow at the family farm – bring a warm jacket. All are welcome to attend either or both. If desired, memorial donations may be made to cancer research at the Canadian Cancer Society (link – please choose Cancer Research in the drop down menu) or any charity of your choice.
For those who were unable to attend there was a short video created with some moments from the vistiation, service, graveside and reception.

The words of the song are based on the writings of Jackie, the loving wife of Dennis for 32 years. Dennis will be missed and we are thankful for the love that never ends from the farmer, father, neighbour and friend.

Jackie + family. Our hearts go out to you for the loss of a best friend, husband, dad, and opa. We know there are no words that can ease your pain, but hold onto and reminice about the MANY memories you made together. It was always a fun time on the Bronson Line – growing up just a few farms down the road, Dennis was always the life of the party and would not hesitate to help a neighbour in need. No one is ever prepared to say goodbye under such tragic circumstances. Stay strong and lean on loved ones who can offer comfort during this unimaginably painful time. Please accept our sincerest condolences for your loss.

To Jackie and your girls, and all who loved Dennis.
We were so saddened to hear the news. Though its been awhile since we sat around summer campfires at Greg and Cheryl’s, or caught up with each other at a snowmobile cabin on a Saturday night or a Sunday afternoon, those memories will always remain as really good ones.
Please know you are in our thoughts during this difficult time. Wishing you comfort, peace and support of those who love you.
Julie and Earl
On Saturday October 25th the Bronson Line community lost its spark of life with Dennis’s passing. He was the neighbour that was always in tune with what was happening in the community. When he would come driving in my drive way some mornings after his daily crop scouting of his crops I knew I would be kept up to date on the latest happenings on the Bronson Line. When I first heard of his illness I thought Dennis will be able to beat this with his strength. It was not to be! We will do our best to keep his memory alive for his family. And when his neighbours and friends finish up harvesting his crops and completing the fall work for Jackie and the girls we will all remember this is exactly what Dennis would have done for his neighbours. As a community we will continue to support his family in the days ahead and hopefully help them try to understand to not only have an answer to that question of WHY but also to WHY NOW at this stage of life! Your neighbour, friend and cousin Pat O’Rourke
Jackie and family
Our condolences to you Jackie and all the Family.

Reading through these tributes, the common thread is one of relationship. Connecting with Dennis was impactful. From our Mt Carmel days riding the backroads with Harv, to my Dad telling me how he had consulted with Dennis on a course they both needed to take, Dennis was all-in, and he seemed to always find the fun. The sting of his departure will be felt, but the memories and stories will endure forever. Sending love and prayers to the entire family.
