Passed away peacefully at Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Fred Cook (2015) for 68 years. Cherished mother of Brenda and Gerald Lenders, Dale Cook, Dianne and Frank Dietrich and Ray and Lauren Cook. Loving grandmother of Mike and Becky, Mark and Jessica, Reid; Jason, Katie; Scott and Jenny, Paul and Jocelyn; Krista, Kevin and Nicky, Alex. Proud great-grandmother of Clara, Julia; Chloe; Amelia (2011), David, Peyton; Bridgette, Graham, Drew; Brooks, Harvey; Finley. Dear sister-in-law of Norma Marshall, Ruth Cook, Lillus Riddell and Fred Lewis. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister, brother, and in-laws, Bar and Doug Davidson, Stan Marshall, Reta and Harry Hughes, Edith and Harold Hardie, Shirley and Max Bilyea, Cliff Cook, Billy Cook, and Jim Riddell and her parents Herbert and Ida (Kimball) Marshall.
For 59 years, she worked alongside her beloved husband Fred, embracing farm life with hard work, love, devotion and happiness. She was passionate about her family, farm, neighbours (all were friends) and the Granton community. She was an active and dedicated member of the Granton United Church, generously giving her time and support. Being a part of her community and giving back were very important to her. Practical, ordinary, content, always true to her values, always doing her best and giving her all – so Jean! Her kindness, dedication, laughter and unwavering spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, LUCAN on Wednesday, February 19th from 4 – 6 PM, where Jean’s funeral service will be held the following day on Thursday February 20th at 11 AM. Interment Granton Cemetery.
A heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Strathmere Lodge, who so lovingly cared for her these past four years.
If wishing, donations to Strathmere Lodge, Jessica’s House Hospice or Villages United Church, in Jean’s memory, would be appreciated by the family.
Condolences to the whole Cook family. Jean was an active community member when we brought our family to Granton, 32 years ago and a friendly & welcoming face at the United Church when we joined after the Anglican Church closed. Her absence over the last few years was indeed noticed.

Dear Brenda, Gerald, Dale, Dianne, Frank, Ray, Lauren and your families of which she was so very proud to be a part of. Her work ethic was second to none. Whether it be her gleaming floors, weed free gardens, hauling wagons to Tooheys or getting lunch ready for Fred…she was always on the move. Knowing she is back in the arms of her beloved Fred brings a smile to all that knew her Hold on to your wonderful memories as you prepare to close this chapter in your family. Thinking of everyone. Rest in the sweetest peace Jean.
My condolences on the loss of your beautiful Mother/Grandmother and to all who cherished her.
As the previous owner of O’Grady’s Clothing in St. Marys- Jean was hands down one of my most favourite customers. She brought light with her when she came through the doors. Fred used to love to sit in the winged back chair for quiet observation. Jean would visit me almost weekly if only to say hello and we always shared a laugh. Our developed friendship was a highlight to my time as a merchant. Thinking of her now with her beloved friend. I bet they’re eating Chinese food.
So sorry to hear of Jeans passing .

Sending my deepest sympathy to all of you as you say goodbye to one remarkable lady. Jean was a pillar in our rural community, and a lovely neighbor to us O’Shea’s. I will especially remember playing with Jason at the farm surrounded by her perfectly manicured gardens, and Halloween night visits with her and Fred.
You have all been in my thoughts this week. I truly can’t help but picture “Fred and Jean” reunited, beaming together once again.
With love,
Shannon
