Absolutely my favourite teacher of all times! Mrs. Cobleigh shared the love of learning with all her students.

We had the pleasure of Mrs Cobleigh being our next door neighour for many years,enjoying her zest for life, playing the piano, sharing our garden and the gooseberry jam she would make for us. Remembered with a smile. Sorry I can’t be there on Saturday. Love Sheila

I have known Muriel for many years, she was a neighbour, friend and client of mine up until she moved away from her house in Lucan, I have many fond memories of her, she taught me to knit, crochet, & make quits.She was a very talented lady in lots of other ways too, I will always remember her loud boisterous greeting, you always knew it was her coming in the door at my hair salon, I enjoyed our time together talking about her family whom she was very proud off while doing her hair. She also tutored my kids with school work, and would often ask how they were doing long after there study sessions had ended. Muriel was a very thoughtful caring lady, We will miss you Muriel RIP

Dear Cobleigh and Banting families,

It’s said people come into your life to teach you something you need to know . Yes, Mrs Cobleigh was also my Grade One teacher at Lucan Public School,but later as an adult I came to enjoy her strength, sense of humour, and a true love of people. I think she really enjoyed seeing her “students” have families of their own. ,One of my favourite memories is when I saw her and she asked about our sons and how they were doing in school.I responded one of them was having a little difficulty with math. She gave me “the look” over top of her glasses and her response was, “Hmm..kind of like his mother”!!!! We both laughed until I was almost cried!!
My thoughts are with you at this time.She lived her life to the fullest and touched many.

Muriel was a fine neighbour and friend to us for many years. Our sincere thoughts go out to all her family at this time.

I have so many memories of Aunt Muriel going back to her years on the farm in London Township. Although I was never her student, it was always clear that she had a curious mind and a zest for learning that continued well into her later years.

Our deepest sympathy to your family on the loss of a mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, friend and one fine lady! I had the privilege of working with Muriel for my first few years of teaching in Lucan. I could not have had a better teacher. I remember how the first couple of weeks my students ran down the hall and came back to the room noisily. Her students travelled quietly in the hallways and entered the room as well behaved little angels. It did not take me long to learn to follow her example of teaching the students respect for others.
I remember the loud greeting we always received from her and her laughter in the staff room, over jokes, stories, incidents from the day and so forth. We always took time at the end of the day to sit for a coffee break for a few minutes and unwind. Those were very enjoyable times and helped us to become a close knit group. When I moved on to a larger school setting, this little group and it’s closeness was what I missed. When I became a principal of a small school, I felt once more that I was “back home”, something I had been searching for since my days at Lucan Public, thanks to Muriel and my other collegues.
And who could ever forget the “tooth pullers” she had inherited and her days of assisting those baby teeth that were just hanging there to come out, rather than be swallowed.
Muriel was a good friend, a special teacher, a lover of people and an all around great person. She will be missed for sure.

We are unable to be with you at this sad time. Carole will certainly never forget Mrs. Cobleigh at Lucan Public School. She inspired many students and raised 2 wonderful daughters – friends throughout our school days together. Many, many people will treasure their memories of Mrs. Cobleigh.

I will honour the memory of my Aunt Muriel as a loving and steadfast lover of life, with great personal faith and resolve in dealing with the ups and downs of life. My condolences go to all the family.

Dear Ilene and Brent and families,

I’m sorry that I can’t be at Aunt Muriel’s memorial service to share in the many wonderful memories of her life. My thoughts and prayers are with all as you remember your mother and grandmother.

I have wonderful memories of Aunt Muriel over the years. I appreciated her love of life, her strong faith and her ability to cope with health difficulties over the years. Even last summer when mom Banting and I visited her, she struggled hard to remember who we were but her face lit up when she recognized and said ‘Helen”.
I was fortunate to inherit her grade 1 picture file when I started teaching grade 1. I also have memories of us sitting around her piano and singing some of the oldie-goldie hymns.

Mrs. Cobleigh was also my grade 1 teacher…..way back when the school burnt down and I started grade 1 in the Lucan United Church basement. I remember her as a great teacher and inspiring to me as a young child. I also have fond memories of her when I was an adult in Lucan. She always had a friendly way. I loved her laugh.

I was another pupil In Mrs. Cobleigh’s Grade 1 class.
I remember her asking me on my first day in class if I was another
one of the Hearn kids. She taught all 5 of us.
I went on to become a teacher myself. My thoughts are with the family at this time.

Lots of great memories of Auntie Muriel, You’ll never forget her laugh and voice! No question you always got the straight goods from her.
She was a keeper.

Our sincere condolences to all of Muriel’s family. I was a member of the School Board that first engaged Muriel to teach in the Lucan Public School. One of the best decisions we ever made!

I have long ago forgotten most of my elementary school teachers but not Mrs Cobleigh. And wonder of wonders on the rare occasion that I would meet her she remembered me. On both counts that is a testimony to a caring, talented teacher.We need more like her!!

So sorry to hear that Aunt Muriel passed away. I only have a few childhood memories of her. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Tim and I spent a lot of time at farm with Aunt Muriel and Uncle Harold. I can still hear her big laugh and booming voice. She always seemed to have something to laugh about. We have lost a great lady. Rest in peace Auntie.

My sincere condolences to Muriel’s famly. Muriel was not one of my teachers, however, I clearly remember her teaching my younger brothers and sister Janet. Often Carl Crocker (teacher) and Muriel had sing alongs and most of the students would gather around the piano. If it was a rainy day or we were unable to go outside at noon hour, you could be sure we would be getting together to sing. I also
remember Muriel playing the piano at the bridal showers which were mostly held in the United Church Parlour.
She was a lady with that irresistible smile, cheerful spirit and I feel fortunate to have known her.

Sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I remember when she taught me in Lucan Public School. She was a great lady. We have fond memories of Muriel. Our sympathy.

Mrs. Cobleigh was a wonderful teacher. She gave all her grade 1 students the true introduction to learning. I have a newspaper clipping saved to this day where she is showing her students how to sew. I guess arts & crafts was my favourite part of the day with her. Thank you, you will be missed. Sorry, I missed Saturday. Janice (Burt) Dobinson
