Condolence from Jim McCarter on February 8th, 2021 1:24 PM

My parents, Max and Doreen McCarter, first met Peg and Tim in 1957 when they bought the cottage at Bruce Beach beside Peg’s father – Albert and Edith Woods. Having known Peg for 63 of her 95 years I can attest that her vibrant outgoing and often delightfully loud personality never changed as she moved into her sunset years. Some of my parents favourite memories were the many summers they spent drinking copious quantities of orange blossoms with Peg and Tim, and Rich and Laura Richardson from another nearby cottage.

Peg, like Jim and Donna, loved being at the cottage. From winning the Bruce Beach girls tennis tournament as a teenager (or so Peg bragged) to being at her most boisterous at beach social get-togethers, her extroverted personality won her many friends over the years – she will be missed.

Dear Jim, Donna and family,
Guy and I would like to express our sincere condolences today to you upon hearing of the passing of our“”Great Aunt “ Peg.
If ever there was a great person, she was one, along with your dad Uncle Tim. My memories of them always centered around how they enjoyed people by always having a welcoming home, appreciating beauty through your father’s art, gardening, your mom’s clothing, the dress shop, the florist shop Then there was the gift of Aunt Peg’s voice/music, which she shared and passed unto so many to count and last but not least was their sense of humour, there was always a twinkle in Uncle Tim’s eye and Aunt Peg.would especially make my grandpa Clark laugh.
She truly was a very special person and I am sorry along with Aunt Margery and the rest of our family that we won’t be able to be in person with you at this time but know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all and in the days to come.

Condolence from Jim Hilborn on February 9th, 2021 1:15 PM

Peg Clark befriended our family shortly after we moved to Markham in 1969, and my wife Nancy and I became a fortunate part of her lucky circle of friends. For me she epitomized enlightened wisdom and joie de vivre. Her truth, and joy, and love for her friends, and her compassion for others in pain or sorrow or concern was almost limitless. She seemed to live every moment to the maximum; she cherished her friends; and she and her wonderful husband Tim were the bedrock of old Markham, carrying on the tradition of her dad who had been a pharmacist on Main Street and Peggy’s forerunner as choir director at St Andrews United Church. She took Nancy, me and our children to her heart, and taught our daughter to sing. In many ways, Peggy showed us how to truly live a rich life.
I will turn to my son Peter for the perfect eulogy. One Saturday morning, when he was 8 or 9, we were walking home up Main Street after spending a hilarious ten or fifteen minutes with Peggy at Tim’s flower shop, both gradually coming down from the high you always experienced when you were in the presence of this amazing woman. After a few quiet minutes, Peter said to me, “That Peggy sure is a racket, isn’t she!” I said, “You mean riot, right?”. He laughed, and said, “Yes. She’s nice.”
Peggy enriched our lives in Markham, and that of so many others … and we are weeping today at our loss.

Condolence from Elsie Tuckey Hermann on February 9th, 2021 1:34 PM

Condolence from Paul Ross on February 10th, 2021 10:37 AM

I always enjoyed a visit with Peg because she would generously augment the conversation with a glass of sherry. Of course, I would never refuse. On a more serious note, Peg was a beautiful person who could rapidly cheer up a less than cheerful minister with her bright eyes, beautiful smile, abundant laughter and, of course, her wonderful music. I, like so many others, will miss knowing that she is a presence in my life. Please accept our (Ruth and myself) most sincere condolences.

Condolence from Jennifer Hilborn on February 10th, 2021 12:13 PM

Jim and family,
I celebrate your Mom/Grandma/Aunt with you today. I grieve with you too. Peggy made a significant impact on my life from a very young age. I don’t remember not knowing her, or a childhood/youth without her influence. Peg and Tim were like family to us. She was a true friend to my Mom Nancy who was on her regular ‘call list’. And when my Mom could no longer take calls, Peg reached out to me to ‘check in’. I am so grateful for those talks now.

With Peggy there was no adult/child barrier – we had great, great fun and laughs together. What a privilege to visit that beautiful house on Orchard Street weekly to laugh and talk with Peg. If timing were right, there might even be a home baked cookie in the mix!

Peggy brought me music – not just the ability to make it, but to appreciate the language of it – and the connection to the human spirit. Her memory and influence has been a gift to my life.

Peace.

Condolence from Marissa Scott on February 10th, 2021 5:27 PM

I consider myself one of the luckiest people to have gotten the honour to know and love Peg at BWRH. Singing with her and sitting to visit while she got a manicure are some of my favourite memories with her. She had a quick wit and and an amazing sense of humour. Her love for her family was strong and I hope you all feel her warmth on your shoulders every time the sun shines. My thoughts are with her friends and family. Rest in Peace Peg, .

A big piece of old Markham has left the stage.
Friend, neighbour, mentor.
Her musical/teaching talents are rightfully acknowledged here, but, for me, Peggy was a whole lot of fun!
A wicked and irreverent sense of humour and a gift for mimicry made each encounter with her memorable. I will always smile when I think of her. What greater tribute!
Condolences to her family. How lucky you were to have her in your lives.

Condolence from Leanne Baird on February 11th, 2021 5:05 PM

Peggy Clark was my piano teacher in Markham when I was a kid 50 years ago.
I remember going to my lessons in her beautiful century home on Parkway Avenue. I still think of her when I drive by there. She was a longtime friend of my father John M. Baird who passed away in 2018. Peg called him when I was cleaning out his room and I had to give her the bad news. I’m so glad I got to speak with her. That was the last time we spoke. Rest In Peace Peg and say hi to everyone on the other side for me .❤️

Peggy and Tim lived next door to us on Parkway Avenue in Markham for many years. Peggy taught my sister Cecile piano. My parents were Harry and Moureen Terhune. My parents live in Whitby now and are 93 and 94. They recently both survived Covid 19, that was in outbreak in their residence. My mom has many fond memories of Peggy. I read her obituary to mom. We send our deepest condolences. Looking at the posted pictures with all the little ones in her family you can see the joy in her heart with her family. So good to know she had a long love filled life.

Jim and family,
I was so sorry to hear about Peg. She always remembered my birthday and called me occasionally just to chat. She was a great lady and I had so many fun times at your house with both Peg and Tim. She was one of a kind and will be sadly missed by you and all the your family.

Condolence from Dale (Coleman) Wheeler on February 12th, 2021 9:37 AM

Jim, I truly understand the huge hole in your heart right now. Peg was a true spirit. I loved the way she would spontaneously sing her high note! I loved the way she looked at your Dad! I loved the annual phone calls from her. She had some great stories and a whole love of love to share with all! Even though I was Anglican, I joined the United church choir because of her.
Colin and I are thinking of you and your family at this very sad time.

Condolence from Lisa Clarke on February 12th, 2021 10:14 AM

On behalf of the Dorey family, I would like to offer our condolences.
Mrs.Peg was in our lives for as long as I can remember.
I loved when she was at our house as she lit up the room.
My favorite was when she graced us with her famous siren! Nothing like it as we all gathered at the back door while she belted it out!

I still have a piano workbook from a younger age where I see through out, the comments were…’needs to practice’. Yet she always encouraged .

For years we were lucky enough to sit in the window of the flower shop to watch the Santa Clause Parade.

She brought joy to our family.

My mum , Mary, and dad, Bob were so very fond of Peg and Tim. They were very dear friends.

A true Markamite.

She will be missed on this earth.

Fondly, Lisa Dorey, Clarke

Condolence from Sara Wansbrough on February 12th, 2021 9:25 PM

Peg and Tim were at Cottage 120 at Bruce Beach, and we, the Wansbroughs, were their neighbours at Cottage 123. Peg and Tim were dear friends of my mother-in-law Marg, who owned cottage 123 That close-knit Bruce Beach community was the focus of many great memories. I remember so many happy times spent in the company of Peg and Tim there, and when Marg passed away in 1990, Tim planted a beautiful lilac bush in the back garden of 123, in her memory. Peg was always so much fun and had a heart of pure gold. It was a great honour to know her. I know she will be missed by the many whose hearts she touched. Happy trails on your next adventure, Peg! Thanks for everything. Love, Sara and Will Wansbrough (daughter-in-law and son of Peg’s Bruce Beach buddy Marg Wansbrough at 123)

Condolence from J Paul Newell on February 15th, 2021 7:21 PM

Our world has lost a caring, talented and simply lovely human being. Peggy Clark, as I knew her from my early years in Markham [1943-1958] before my departure for university and beyond, was a “real” presence in the lives of many, including a young man who so greatly benefited from her support and learned so much from her. Her leadership of the Markham United Church choir has stayed with me through the years as exemplary; she was demanding and kind; she had a wonderful knack of bringing good humour into most situations; I did so look forward to those Thursday evening choir practices. I am grateful for the opportunity to know and interact with this marvelous woman. Thank you, Peggy, for all you did for so many of us.

Condolence from Karen Rae Short on May 12th, 2021 10:50 AM

Having just tried to phone Peg, I learned today of her passing and want to offer condolences to the Clark family. I first met Peg in the early 80’s when she was Director at St. Andrew’s United in Markham and enjoyed singing and laughing with her until we moved out of the area in 1991. When Peg and Tim moved to Exeter, our Markham neighbour and friend Peggy Wyatt and I would drive to Exeter or to their cottage to visit, and loved catching up with them. Six years ago when my husband Matthew and I moved to London, the first person I visited was Peg in Exeter, and at Blue Water before Covid made it impossible for personal visits. Peg brought so much joy to so many people with her laughter, funny and sometimes “colourful” stories, singing and playing, and brought the very best out of her choir always. I’ll miss our chats…

Condolence from Kathy Hammill (Liebler) on August 20th, 2022 8:04 AM

Dear cousin Jim, it saddens me now to know your mother has gone on (rather recently), because just this hour I found this obituary (8 am on 8.20.22). Thank you for posting the photos here.
You may not remember me, but I’m your Dad’s Aunt Genevieves’ granddaughter, from Michigan in the States. My mother, Erva Liebler, passed Aug 4,2013 and I talked on the phone to your mother about that time. After I acquired my mother’s address book and found Peggy’s number in it, I immediately called your mother and we had a good long talk. She was so encouraging to me at that time and I’ll carry her words in my heart. They were great friends! I’d love to hear from you.
