CARPENTER: Mary Isabelle of Zurich

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Isabelle Carpenter (nee Pollock) announce her peaceful passing on May 11, 2021 at the age of 79 at West Huron Care Centre after a lengthy illness.  Beloved wife of Tom Carpenter for 61 years. The mother of Carol Grigg (Terry) of London. Loving grandmother of Ashley Pressey (Gary), Sarah Grigg (Nelson) and Trevor Grigg.  Great-grandmother of Finley, Jocelyn and Marshall. Fondly remembered by siblings Grant Pollock, Pat Meigs (Jack), Randy Pollock (Helen) and Frank Pollock (Sharon). Mary will be greatly missed by many family members and friends.  Predeceased by her parents Loretta Small and Floyd Pollock, sister Pauline and husband Jim Coursey.

Mary was a talented woman who loved to make furniture, clothes and upholster furniture in her leisure time.  She was also a seamstress at Murray-Selby Shoes for years.  Mary loved spending time with her family and looked so forward to her visits with the love of her life, Tom.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at West Huron Care Centre, Zurich Ontario for their kindness, care, and compassion over the years.  We cannot express enough how extraordinary and dedicated the PSW’s and Nursing groups are at the facility.   Special thank you to Mary’s guardian angel Eleanor Riley who watched over her every day, Mary was blessed to have you there.  Due to Covid 19 a private gathering will be held and a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Homes, Zurich (519-236-4365). Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Mary’s passing. I reflect on my childhood summers at the family cottage and how I loved spending time talking to her and Uncle Tom, my God Parents. Her ability to make you laugh and smile came easy to her through her funny stories and witty sense of humour.
She touched so many people’s lives and will be missed by all.
Our deepest heartfelt condolences go out to Carol and Uncle Tom and the entire family.

Mary (Mrs. Carpenter I called her) was like a 2nd mother growing up. So many weekends spent in their home. Mary was so easy to talk, and made me feel so welcomed. I remember her hobby room on the 2nd floor on Stuart Street. A very talented lady and never afraid to try things on her own. I have alot of fond memories spending so much time at the Carpenter house. May you rest in peace now. You will be missed by so many family and friends.
