BURGESS: Beth Louise (Piercy) of Lucan
Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On September 10, 2025 @ 3:08 PM In Lucan,Obituary | 23 Comments

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Beth drifted away peacefully at dawn on September 7th with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband Ron, and her daughters Alison, and Miriam, son-in-law James, and her grandson Austin; her siblings Jill, Carol, and Ray; her dear friends John, Pam, and Susan; her close niece Sabrina and her family John, Nigel, Nikita, and Naomi; and many nieces, nephews, and their families. She was an eternal optimist and was a source of light and warmth to those who were fortunate to know her.
Beth was born in 1960 in Deep River, Ontario to Bob and Shirley Piercy. Her love of the outdoors was nurtured here, with her siblings alongside for canoe trips and hiking throughout Algonquin Park. No tents, just a tarp under the stars.
She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology at Western University where she met John on the first night of residence and have been loyal friends ever since. She took two years off before her final year to travel around Asia, inspired by her parents who took every opportunity to see the world. Upon returning, she finished her degree and met and married the love of her life in 1986. She attended teachers’ college and began her teaching career; a lifelong passion of helping students love learning in the classrooms where she taught ESL and grades 2 and 4.
Beth and Ron embarked on another lifelong passion, rebuilding their fixer-upper north of Lucan. They made lifelong friends on the Coursey Line: Louise and Ronnie, Pete and Ann, Norm and Dot, and Phil, Kelli and Arleigh. During renovations, they raised Alison and Miriam, who are their pride and joy. Beth was so proud to see her daughters grow and build lives of their own. She was overjoyed to welcome and care for her grandson Austin, who adored his grandma.
We invite you to a celebration of Beth’s life at her home, where she enjoyed the quiet moments of a morning tea on the deck, the chit-chat with her daughters in the kitchen, the rambunctious play of Austin in the living room, and the wonderful life she shared with Ron.
The celebration of Beth’s Life will be held on Sunday September 21, 2025, from 1pm – 5pm at 34558 Coursey Line, Lucan
In lieu of flowers donation to the Ontario Student Nutrition Program or South Huron Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

We are so shocked and profoundly saddened to learn of Beth’s passing. Even though it was so long ago, we fondly remember having such great get togethers with the Burgesses! Beth was an amazing, kind, thoughtful woman and will be missed by many. Take good care of each other in this painful time. You are in our thoughts.

Dear Ron and Family,
It’s been many years since we were at Western together and I’m sorry we haven’t kept in touch, but wanted to express our sincere condolences at this time. I’m sure this leaves a huge hole in your hearts. One of my (Charlotte) fondest memories of Beth was when we rode our bikes to a farm just outside London to pick strawberries – they were totally crushed by the time we got them home! But she was always game to try anything – such a beautiful spirit. Wish you peace, Charlotte Enns and Greg Evans
Dear Ali.
Your mom sounds like an inspiring soul. I’m sorry I never got the pleasure of meeting her personally and I’m sorry for your tragic loss.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
From Norway, Jørgen and I offer our deepest condolences to the Burgess family. 🫶🌹
Dear Ron and Burgess family,
I am so sorry for your loss and send my deepest condolences. Ron, I met you and Beth several years ago when I briefly visited with John. You were both so welcoming to me.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I had the good fortune to be on the same staff as Beth while teaching at Chippewa Public School in London. Beth was highly respected by her peers as well as by myself. She was insightful, steadying and wise.
In my opinion teachers did not come any finer than Beth and any child in her class was lucky to be there. My deepest condolences are extended to her family.❤️
I am truly sorry for your loss, my condolences to Alison, Miriam and family.
Ron, Alison, Miriam and family
I am so sad to hear of Beth’s passing and send my sincerest condolences to you, the extended family and friends. I have many fond memories of fun times spent with Beth and Ron in London, at your home in Lucan, and during your visit with me in Nova Scotia. Beth’s joyful spirit, beautiful smile, and laugh are centered in those memories.
So sorry for your loss.
A light like Beth’s will never truly be extinguished. She glows warmly in every single person whose life she touched. I feel very privileged to have known her.
Beth was one of those people that carried an energy of peace and kindness wherever she went. Everyone lucky enough to know her felt this energy and was touched by her spirit and smile. May we all learn from her positivity and strength.
Sending love to her family.
Dear Ron & Family,
I am so sad to hear of Beth’s passing. She was a very lovely lady.
I worked with her in the early 80’s at “Say Cheeze” and knew immediately she was different.
While working one evening at the restaurant , I asked her about her first date with some guy named “Ron” and she got all blushing and gooshie, like young girls in love do :} Clearly, she was smitten.
I ran into her many years later after we had both moved to Lucan and shared updates on our lives. I asked her was the guy she married the guy from the first date in the tent? She laughed and replied yes with a bit of surprise that I remembered after so many years. A fairytale story for Beth!
The world is a better place for her being in it. I am very sorry for your loss.
Kindest regards,
Kelly Collins-Wilson
Ron, Alison and Miriam,
I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss and sending you my most heartfelt condolences. I was so sad to hear of Beth’s passing as she was such a bright light in this world and know her absence will be felt so deeply by so many.
Babysitting you girls was one of the highlights of my teenage years and I think of those days fondly. You all had such an impact on my life including Ron me getting into psychology at Western because of the psych text book you let me borrow one night after babysitting.
I will always remember the warmth of your family and Beth every time she’d greet you and the comfort I used to find in your home.
Wishing I could be there with you in person during this difficult time but hope you very much know you are all in my thoughts.
Dear Miriam
You Mother sounds like an amazing woman, wish I had known her!
I’m very sorry to hear of Beths passing at this early age, especially with Austin now in your lives❤️
My sincere condolences to you and your family during this difficult time of loss.
Love and Hugs to you lovely lady.
XO
My heart goes out to you Miriam and to your family. I remember you and your Mum well and was shocked to hear this sad news. She was a fine person. You brought her much joy.
Sincerely,
Fran Barnett
