Posted By Haskett Funeral Homes On January 25, 2021 @ 12:12 PM In Obituary,Zurich | 121 Comments

BIEMAN: David “Dave” of Bayfield and formerly of Exeter

Peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 24, 2021 of Bayfield and formerly of Exeter at the age of 73.  Cherished husband of Helen (Kravacek) Bieman for over 51 years.  Loving father of Adam and Lisa Bieman of Blyth, Erin Bieman-Ward and Aaron Ward of Newfoundland.  Dear grandfather of Virginia, Liam, and Aiden. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Cherie and Sauli Ahvenniemi, and Vera and Larry Claeys.   Predeceased by his parents Grace and Jack Bieman, a granddaughter Zoë, and brother-in-law Milo Kravacek.

Dave enjoyed many interests but his passions centered around love for God and family, being on the water, ongoing learning and sharing his knowledge through teaching.

He was a teacher and media coordinator with the Huron, then the amalgamated Avon-Maitland school board. He enthusiastically met the challenge of introducing computer technology to the schools and school libraries.

Once retired, he merged skills and passion becoming very active with creating and teaching  boating courses with both the Goderich District and the National level of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons. Whether paddling, sailing or power boating, he loved being on the water, both locally and internationally. Many wonderful family memories live on because of Dave’s generous sharing of his time on the water.

His motto, “retired but not too tired” led to volunteer service as well at Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Bayfield Agricultural Society and in recent years at The Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Dave’s life will be held in the future when family and friends are able to gather and share love, support and hugs.

Donations to the Huron County Food Distribution Centre would be appreciated by the family.

Condolence from Debbie Brocke on January 26th, 2021 6:15 AM

Aunt Helen, Adam, Lisa, Virginia, Erin & Aaron, Liam & Aiden, I’m sending my love and prayers to you all. My love for boating was definitely nurtured by Uncle Dave. What great memories I have on Otty Lake… Uncle Dave gave so much, to so many whether friend, family or stranger it didn’t matter. If you needed, he would help. His last breath here mixed with his first breath there and hearing these words, Well Done good and faithful servant. This is especially hard when we are a family that gathers, hugs, prays for each other, shares stories, celebrate life with food and more… know my heart, thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our sincere sympathy and condolences to you, Helen and family. We enjoyed working with Dave at the church and he will be greatly missed as a leader and friend. We believe Dave fulfilled this passage from 1 Peter 5.
Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

Condolence from Shirley & Ross Carter on January 28th, 2021 10:54 AM

Dear Helen and family, Ross and I want to send our heartfelt sympathy to you and yours for the loss of such a beautiful person as Dave. We have many wonderful memories of the two of you and the generosity which both of you shared with us as well as many others. I treasure the time that we spent together both as teachers, learning and as friends.
Dave was always a great support to all of us as we meandered our way through the technology that computers brought into our lives. He was always so supportive and calming if we thought we had run into a new obstacle. Sometimes we both learned at the same time. He was indeed a kind man. I can never remember him getting upset and always met us with a smiling and calm demeanor. May God give Dave his blessing.
Ross and Shirley Carter

Condolence from Mary Cassell on January 29th, 2021 1:07 PM

Dear Helen and Family:
It was so sad for so many to read/hear of Dave’s passing into Heaven. Reading the previous condolences, I am amazed at how many fields he touched, and hearts as well. I was reminiscing with a friend about the year you and Dave had to share a tent with my Don at Crusaders’ Camp. Dave let everyone know that he didn’t know where Don was going to sleep, but he – Dave- was going to sleep in the middle. We have told that story often, eliciting huge laughs every time. Let those joyous memories be a huge comfort to you..
Mary

Condolence from Rene Kirmse on January 30th, 2021 12:22 PM

I was truly sorry to hear of Mr. Bieman’s passing. I was a student in his grade 5 class at Usborne Central many years ago and my year in Mr. Bieman’s class had had a long and lasting impression on me as a person and in particular on me as a teacher over the past 35 years. Our grade 5 year was one of wonder and excitement thanks to Mr. Bieman’s enthusiasm, caring and love of teaching and for that we are all grateful. My sincere condolences to the Bieman family.

Condolence from Doug Yeo on January 30th, 2021 4:12 PM

Helen and family, it was always a treat to work with Dave for the Bayfield Ag Society. Every detail was looked after and you were always confident that the website would be cared for and the parade would go off without a hitch. In my many conversations it didn’t take long to realize that he had a true affection for being on the water as well as with family. His work at the Board level was always appreciated and such a support in teaching. He was the true image of a “gentleman”. Please accept my condolences.

I am sending kind thoughts and condolences to you and your family Helen. Dave was a kind, thoughtful, caring person who shared his knowledge and expertise with many. I had the pleasure of working with him at the Board Office and at CHSS when we move our departments over there. Dave had a gentle patient manner, expertise to share with all, and a dry sense of humour to brighten the day for those around him. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

Condolence from Beth McGee on February 3rd, 2021 11:51 AM

Our deepest condolences to you Helen, Adam, Erin and families
This is belated, however, I was just made aware of Dave’s passing. Dave will be missed by so many. He exemplified what it was to be ‘helpful’. He had the time and patience to help anyone who might need it, whether we knew it or not. Dave took we, the totally ‘non-tech’ teachers in the ‘Board’, and slowly created somewhat satisfactory reluctant computer users. He will never know how thankful I am to this day for his knowledge and expertise in the world of technology. He truly was a pioneer in this field.
Both Rick and I were assisted many times while at the school board. He was always patient, and never too busy to answer questions. His love of the water was obvious long before he retired and he signalled ‘the fun in retirement’ before any of us reached that point.
Our children became friends with yours along the path of growing up.
Although, life has a way of allowing us to drift apart when we end our working time together, you and Dave did not lose a place in our memories as your name would come up periodically.
Dave will live on in all our memories, but hopefully, your memories will bring comfort, happiness, and the occasional laugh.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Beth, Rick, and family.

Condolence from Dave and Fern Allen on February 7th, 2021 5:18 PM

We in the educational media field met fairly often. SOMA (Southwestern Ontario Media Association)

One time Fern and I met Dave at Grand Bend and had a ride in his power boat down to The Pinery and back. He kept his boat up the river at Grand Bend.

Strange that just the other day Fern and I were thinking of Dave and looking at a picture from on his boat and wondering what he was doing these days. 73 is awfully young to die.
